Glad, you got replacements. However, all should note that you can purchase additional insurance from homeowners and renters policies at $1-2 for every $1000 of value without any deductible or prorating. This is different than the umbrella policies many insurers provide. With AAA it was simply to provide a receipt for each insured item. All payouts are at 100% of your cost. Did I have a claim? Yes, D810 and 24-70 f/4 went into the pacific. Check came within days. I am protected from accidents as well as theft. No I did not have to provide a police report either. All of my equipment is insured - tripods, filters, ballheads, luggage, meters, etc. If it could be stolen, it is insured.
This is cheap peace of mind....

Very smart ... hard lessons you will avoid. Unfortunately many don't and many more believe that regular insurance covers it.

¡¡¡ Sorry for my english !!! I write in Spanish if they wish and understand it better....... :-)
I have collected on the homeowners policy from Farmers on camera theft twice in the last 39 years. Never a problem because I keep all my receipts forever!

Please don't apologise. Very few native English speakers could write Spanish half as well as you write in English. We should be the ones to apologise.

Do they also slice through camera straps?
Ive heard that they do that. They may come along on foot, or riding on a bike. Slice through the strap of the camera bag or a womans purse and off they go. Youll never catch them. Keep a good grip on everything.

It depends. Ive had my photo gear stolen twice. Once, my bag with the Nikon F, 35, 50 and 135 were stolen out of my condo. And about ten years later my FE2, 50, 105 and 300 were stolen out of my car (the backpack was in the trunk). Insurance paid replacement value both times (homeowners insurance covered).
What Ive heard is better, especially if you have higher-end gear, is to get an add-on rider to your homeowners policy that specifically covers what youve got.
I also was a victim of theft in the Barcelona Airport, a tag team, one guy diverted my attention and the second guy stole my carryon bag in a matter of 10 seconds less. Our travel insurance made good on on my Canon DSLR, new jacket, etc... We were lucky because I took the time to report the theft to the airport police and got a police report. A police report is crucial in claiming a loss with travel insurance.
They wouldn't cover my new prescription sunglasses, but I was able to claim them with Visa, they paid as well
Today I have specific insurance for my camera gear from my State Farm agent.
