I love this chunk of granite rock.......it's called Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, California. It's reported that a glacier ripped through the valley and took the other half of the dome with it. 36 years ago I proposed to my wife on top of that rock. The final photo is of the Wawona Hotel near the Southern entrance to the park.

I didn't know that's where their name came from. I always love finding out stuff like that. Thanks Brent.

Dan, those blue things are two different things:
1. at the top middle it is the sky just past twilight
2. the other blue things are the light cast on the buildings
I'm not sure why they turned out so blue looking. They just happened like that. Does it bother you? They are quite strong looking aren't they? Maybe to strong?

Yeah, Martax, I'm kind of a trivia and fun fact nut. I like finding out things like that too. Also, FYI, "The North Face" clothing and gear company was bought out by a Japanese firm a number of years ago.

I know the hotel its sort of away from the valley I usually stay right outside the Park in Oakhurst. Planter of nice places there to stay and eat

Lenny, thank you for your approval of these photos. To answer your questions:
No, I don't have a death wish to jump off, and my knees are shot now anyways, so I couldn't make the hike up.
The last photo is the Wawona Hotel located near the Southern entrance of the park. It has a 9 hole golf course there.

Yes, the Wawona Hotel is quite a ways from the "Valley". It's interesting though because there is a historical site there to visit and walk through. You walk through a covered bridge that was used back in the 1900's.

Jim, to answer your questions I did a Google map search for you. It's called Olmsted Point where the turn out is. If you are coming from Tioga Pass it is just past Tenaya Lake. If you are driving from the Valley it is just before Tenaya Lake. I'm attaching a map for you.
Next question: She was NOT my wife when I proposed to her. She was my girlfriend! A friend of mine, she and I all backpacked for 6 weeks together and this was the highlight of the trip for us. She did say yes and we are still married after all these years. Neither of us backpack any longer but the memories of Yosemite backcountry will never be erased from my mind.

Brent,

Ahh, I got it now. I'm glad you cleared that up . . . .

Thanks for taking the time to answer and to provide the map. I'll hit it next trip.

I didn't propose to my sweetie (now my wife!) at Yosemite (let alone on top of H.D.!), but we did backpack there on our honeymoon: and ditto about the memories. Maybe there is something about the place: forty-six years on and we're still going.

Congrat's on your full frame. Pray for me and maybe I'll eventually follow your lead.

Cheers,
