I love this chunk of granite rock.......it's called Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, California. It's reported that a glacier ripped through the valley and took the other half of the dome with it. 36 years ago I proposed to my wife on top of that rock. The final photo is of the Wawona Hotel near the Southern entrance to the park.
Please download these images for best viewing.

The detail is great!

First one looks like it's taken from the Tioga Pass rd, just west of Tuolumne Meadows. 2nd from Glacier Point. Beautiful shots of an amazing place. Nicely done!

Thanks very much Bob. If you entered the park through Tuolumne Meadows from Tioga pass, then first shot was taken just past Tenaya Lake. There is a turn out there. It has a great view of the Valley with Half Dome. Thanks again Bob.

Brent,

What was your vantage point for the first shot. I don't think I've ever seen it from that angle. I'd like to try it on my next trip. It looks like a shot from the east , looking back toward the valley at the face of H.D. I've taken more than one shot of it from Washburn Point and they don't look like this. . . .

One other thought: if she was your wife why did you have to propose? Or maybe the question is what were you proposing . . . Oh. Never mind. Forget I brought it up. . . .

Respectfully,
Brent, br br What was your vantage point for the ... (show quote)

Jim, to answer your questions I did a Google map search for you. It's called Olmsted Point where the turn out is. If you are coming from Tioga Pass it is just past Tenaya Lake. If you are driving from the Valley it is just before Tenaya Lake. I'm attaching a map for you.
Next question: She was NOT my wife when I proposed to her. She was my girlfriend! A friend of mine, she and I all backpacked for 6 weeks together and this was the highlight of the trip for us. She did say yes and we are still married after all these years. Neither of us backpack any longer but the memories of Yosemite backcountry will never be erased from my mind.

Your first shot of half dome is unique. I haven't seen one from that perspective before. The second shot really showcases a daunting vertical face. Nice shots.

Love the perspective of the first shot, which I would never, ever be able to achieve. Thanks for posting so I know what it looks like up there. That proposal must have been a doozie. Congrats on 36 years.

Martax, if you look 3 post above this one you will see where it was taken from along Tioga Road. The second one does show how vertical the North Face really is. And.......FYI, "The North Face" clothing and outdoor gear company was named after the North Face of Half Dome.

Thank you for the congrats of 36 years and the compiments on the photos AuntieM. Glad to post them. Yes, the proposal was a doozie........I was very nervous......not because of the shear cliff edge, but because of the commitment of marriage.

Thanks Sirius_one.........that view is from Washburn Point, looking nearly at Half Dome from 90 degrees. It's near Glacier Point.
