You should be able to get some really good fall colors shots just west of you at Bemis Woods. You are not far from Oak Park where the historic homes of Earnest Hemingway and Frank Lloyd Wright are located. Chicagoland is one of the most photogenic areas in the country. Go to your local bookstore and get a Chicagoland guide book. Those are always great for finding interesting places to shoot. I lived on the Southside several years ago and was amazed at the diversity and variety of all the neighborhoods that are not far from your front door.

In that area are about a billion forest preserves. Well maybe I exaggerate a bit. LOL. I have friends in that area that are constantly posing photos from that area. Each time you go to a forest preserve you can find more photos. You should be able to find enough to keep you busy for years. Enjoy!!

This is a bit north of you... Probably worth the ride

Ned brown busse woods... rt 53/290 and rt 72 in Elk grove village... 2.5 million visits every year... As many as Yellowstone... about 12 miles of bike paths multiple lakes... 3 dams... on salt creek... watershed project... Captive elk herd, deer, and all kinds of geese, herons, seagull's,..etc.

A bit further north is Paul Douglas forest preserve... Has a rookery... Lots of stuff around this area... Google is your friend... Happy shooting

I am going to Chicago in early December to shoot in and around Michigan Ave with all the lights on. Much to shoot downtown. One great spot is the Library on Michigan.

Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville. It's on Route 56 east of Route 59, not far from Fermi Lab. It has a lake, a marsh, and a tall man made hill. You should find enough variety for several outings.
