Be careful that you don't jeopardize your sanity trying figure out what happened! Good to know the issue is resolved.

Sorry, I didn't mean to indicate that Filezilla had ANYTHING to do with it. If I'd had Filezilla working right away I would have had no need to move that folder. Sorry to confuse.

I get that, but you seem to indicate that installing Filezilla fixed the issue where you could not move a folder?

No, it had nothing to do with. Unfortunately I don't KNOW what I did to fix the issue other than a request popped up on the screen asking me if I wanted to move the photos to Pictures in This PC. It must be what's billed as the intuitive part of Win 10. I'd rather make these decisions myself and NOT have Win 10 trying to figure out what I want.

OK maybe someone with some Win10 will chime in, but it sounds like you ran out of memory, and after a restart it worked, or after a while it paged out and began working.

Can't imagine it ran out of memory. It's brand new and I only had the one folder of 238 images on it. I'm just still learning the ropes both with this new laptop AND with Win 10. I'll get thru it. Thanks for all your help.

My Windows 10 laptop does stuff like that routinely. Usually a good ole reboot gets things going again for a while. In the meantime I do have my Macbook Pro to fall back on and and a 64gig thumb drive to move stuff from one to the other. My wife won't use the PC so I have to kind of duplicate data from one to the other. :D :-D

Very weird. I'm giving it the good ole college try and if it continues to act up I may use my 3 month Costco warranty. At this point it's less than one week old so I'm brand new at this.

Perhaps... it was chugging thru the folder contents deciding if it should "help you" include them as pictures? Had they been .DOC files it may have offered to place them in a document library for you.

Just a guess.

If this should happen to you again use Cntl C to copy the folder or Cntl X to move it. When you get the folder or drive open to which you want to move it use Cntl V to complete the operation. These Cntl key operations work on folders the same way they do on files.

When you open "file explorer" in w10 there is a complete array of options and menus at the top of the screen to copy, move, delete etc.

I feel so stupid asking this question but I've tried everything. I have a Win 10 Lenovo laptop that I have LR on and have successfully edited and exported a group of images to a folder.

I want to move that folder off the laptop but when I right click on that folder I get no option to cut, move, etc. I keep getting the individual images opening up which is NOT what I want.

Anyone have any experience with Win 10 who can help me?

Donna,

I just checked on my computer and if you are going into libraries and navigating to your folder, either through Quick Access, or This PC, and you right click on your folder, you should see the same menu as was in Windows 7. Something appears to be wrong with your Win 10 or your right click button. Does the right click work in other areas, such as right clicking on a drive and getting the proper "context menu" for the "right click" function?

I just did this, and I have been using Windows 10 on at least 6 of my computers since March this year on the "insider" program.

Furthermore, I am a PC consultant, and teach also at a Community College. I just did my second Windows 10 Demo class four days ago. OK, I'm proud of myself. 25 years worth.

I think you have a unique problem, presuming you know whereof you speak, and it appears you do.

Again, when you get into the basic functions of Windows, Windows 10 has not pulled any surprises here. After 6 months of using Windows 10 almost exclusively, I can tell you that Windows 10 is simply Windows 7, with a bit of new navigation (much less so than Windows 8) and the other OS added for Tablet.

Feel free to PM me if you like.

Last point are you attempting to do this with the Touchpad, or have you realized what a terrible input device the touchpad is, and picked up a mouse (wireless or otherwise) for your laptop.

You simply cannot do all the functions of a mouse with a touchpad, and it's counterproductive to try to do so. I always turn off my touchpad to keep from erroneously moving the cursor in documents while typing, when my thumbs tap or drag across the touchpad.

By the way, as is routine for an instructor to say, THERE ARE NO STUPID QUESTIONS. If no one asks, My classes would be very short.

The folder doesn't click and drag. In the future I do plan to connect an aux drive and use that so I don't have this issue. But this issue is RIDICULOUS to have! What use is a folder is I can't DO anything with it? Not yelling at you, of course. Just terribly frustrated with what I assume is a Win 10 issue.

It is not a Win 10 issue.

Donna, br br I just checked on my computer and if... (show quote)

Thanks, Kuzano. Sorry for the delay in answering. I'm slowly getting the hang of Windows 10. I finally found File Explorer deep in the menu and THAT'S where I found the folders I'm familiar with. I'm still debating on whether to delete (if I can figure out how) the photos app or whatever it is that brings up photos I've loaded but appears to be a gallery that is not really very user friendly. Anyway, no questions at the moment but hopefully I will soon have some questions that I can pose intelligently. I do agree that a mouse is necessary for all I want to be able to do. I just checked Costco and they have a wireless Logitech one for $24.95. That seems a bit steep because I really don't need anything fancy but then again I've only just started looking. I've been forcing myself to do as much as possible with the pad and touch so that I will be more familiar. I also have a Wacom tablet I need to learn to use. Oh my.....so much to learn and so little time. (-: I really appreciate your time and willingness to share your knowledge - and everyone else's as well. Thanks!

Filezilla is the way my company requires us to FTP our files to their server so that the schools have access to them. I've solved that issue. It's now on my laptop and desktop. Not sure if you were asking what it is or what it had to do with my problem.
