I was perusing the Nikon Web Site this morning when this offer appeared in the big moving window on top. I am wondering if this set up is one that makes sense if I already have the 35mm f1.8 lens and a 24-85mm f3.5-4.5. It also has a macro guide and a portrait guide included.

I dont beleive its a 24-85, looks like a 85mm and a 35mm I would check prices at adorama first, seems a little pricy for those 2 lens, I have the 35mm 1.8 and it only costs about $200.00, not sure about the 85mm

No, I already own the 24-85. It is an old film lens.

Jethro779 -- Nikkor 24-85 1:3.5-4 G is quite a handy current lens, small and light. Have gotten lots of good shots with it. I would always go to B&H or Adorama to buy. The Nikon site has few bargains.

According to the price breakdown I did by individually pricing the lenses, the lenses alone are $1129.90 The online class is $ 49.95. Plus the price of the 2 DVD's makes me think it IS a pretty good deal.

Edit, price was not 1129.90 it was 729.90. Need to get my calculator out instead of pencil and paper.

The lens is not a G it is an old film lens with an aperture ring, and an M marking at the 28mm end and when you push the little silver button on the zoom ring you get a macro setting. I got the lens when I got my D3000 thinking it would be better than my kit lens(18-55). It was better just had to manually adjust focus.

Lets see, the Nikon site has both lenses and some additional tutorial info for 819.00. If buy both lenses from B&H without the extra stuff you pay 724.00. So, lets see, the difference is $95.00. So, lets see, you are paying $95.00 for Nikon info on Micro and Portrait stuff. YOU DECIDE. Boy, this was a really hard decision, I am ready for my morning nap. BYE

Since you already have the 35mm, I'd let this deal pass. If you want that 85mm, you can get it for a little over $500. As for the "instruction," there is plenty available online for free.

Bear in mind that that 85mm macro is a "DX" lens, not a full frame... I'd pass personally....
