Absolutely, Earl, it makes no difference. Most of the problems of the world today is related to who we THINK we are or want to be. And how silly is that?
I am reminded of the line, "I am more an ancient Roman than a Dane," in which Horatio describes his attitude as a scholar of the Roman Republic. I am clearly of that sort philosophically in terms of world view, but I am also painfully aware of the Norse ancestry and about how long I would have lasted if I had gone Viking.
