Don't remember if I have intro myself --- If not my apologies & will do so --- But could use some advice or conformation on what to & not to take --- --- 11 day - Trip to So. Italy = Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento, Amalfi, Poestum --- Sicily = Just about all of the Greek/Roman temples plus Mt Etna
Want to of course take everything -- but previous experiences prove that I'm just too old & those days are long behind me ----
Here is what I'm planning on taking --- Canon --- 5Dmk2; 24mm 1.4; 35 1.4; 85 1.8; 100-400 IS (old model); Gitzo G1127 mk2 with Acratech GP ballhead ----- What i'm leaving behind = 50mm 1.4 & my favorite lens 135 2.0 plus all the filters, flash & close-up lenses ----- per the bathroom scale that's still almost 15lbs of "stuff"
Dear Hogs: br Don't remember if I have intro mysel... (show quote)

Your favorite body, a wide angle lens, and a telephoto lens. The lens' numbers do not matter,. how you use them does. Southern Italy is very colorful and offers creative opportunities for both these lenses. Enjoy your trip, use your lenses to enjoy the moments later. Have fun.

Shelly was very unhappy when I took three cameras and four lenses to Hawaii on our last trip. Shelly is my ex-wife.

Did a similar itinerary a few years back. Sufficed with the 24-105 on the FF and the 70-200 on the cropped. Most of the time it was the 24-105 that saw the use. I find it's better to have 2 bodies and this set up while traveling to cover the range.

I visited Sicily about a year and half ago and found my wide angle lens most useful. Didn't use a tripod because I wanted to limit luggage - we often had to carry our own.

sorry for post with no content--this is the only way I have found to "unwatch" a topic as just unchecking the box does not work

Don't know the exact Itel. word but it does translate into having more fun; getting not great photos but at least coming away with what I consider as acceptable and last but not least returning home with no regrets ---- However I'm sure my upper & lower back, neck, shoulder & whatever other supporting ligaments will fully agree & get your point! But what the hell It's only a hobby -----
