This is not hunting it is simply shooting animals on a farm that are raised by humans so they trust people and are easy to shoot. Not much different then going down the the local dairy farm and shooting a cow.

Exactly........ doesn't that make it worse, it does to me. Do some people have no conscience or humiity how heartless can one be. How many people who you know would or could do that. i'm happy to say I don't know anyone and if I had seen it I would have done all I could to prevent the slaughter, believe me I would.

Thanks for contributing

Is this how you get your thrills.? I am not sorry for posting this at all, it should be seen, all animals are God's creatures, not targets for leisure murdering, it's not sport, so don't tell that it is.
I know I will be the list's most wanted and hated man but so what? All I have to do is switch off, the poor innocent, gentle, graceful fourteen foot Giraffe is dead, bravo that woman, are you envious of the size of the prey???

Someone recently said on this list there are at least 50 million gunmen hunters in the US.
If each one of these animal murderers, kills ten of natures wonderful birds or animals each season,
the total is astronomical and will not be sustained for ever. There are normal people who hate your murderous activity but many don't like to speak out against what they believe, because of repercussions of some description, Lets face it the gun men on here alone, are fanatical about guns and there rights to hunt. I just can't believe it...............

Although I disagree with you in many regards, I will not be part of the shit fest that is coming your way.

I will say that in the right circumstances, hunting is a perfectly legitimate sport. In the wrong circumstances, it is vulgar and wasteful.

Hunting done properly involves more than pointing your weapon and shooting. When I was taught to hunt as a teenager, I was taught many things. Shooting was the easy part.

Sitting in a treehouse and baiting the prey into your sights is vulgar.

Hunting endangered or protected animals is vulgar.

Hunting on a closed preserve where the prey can be cornered and killed (I am thinking Dick Cheney here) is vulgar.

Hunting with automatic weapons is vulgar. (hell, I have relatives who think hunting with firearms is vulgar. I don't go that far).

Hunting that does not involve any physical discomfort or genuine exertion for the hunter is vulgar.

Hunting without understudying or respecting your prey is vulgar.

I now hunt mostly with my telephoto lenses. But i have no innate disrespect for hunters that are not vulgar.

With regard to trophy hunters we agree. But hunters who don't take trophys but eat their kill, we do not agree. Unless you are a vegan, you eat meat. If you do you merely pay others to kill that meat in your stead. I, for one don't see any difference. Where do think that steak that you had for dinner came from, or that chicken, or that fish or that bacon came from.

The thread is about killing for the sake of it like the awful woman in the picture.

This is from the very beginning of the thread, it has turned into a shambles but it seems to be back on it's feet

I find the killing of any animal for trophy distasteful, i would never want to do what this woman has done, nor ever want a photo of it for any reason.

The sad fact is, draining wetlands, building dams, planting fields, constructions of roads, and building houses kill far more, forever then trophy hunters ever will. Know that if only trophy hunters were killing wildlife, then their numbers would be at 100%. The true slaughter can be found around water holes poisoned with arsenic, on the table as bush meat, in the pharmaceutical shops in China, on piano keyboards, or sculptures, in piles of tusks, on the sword handles in SaudiArabia…

I find the photo so very sad, but am distraught at the true carnage and the loss of habitat… both the latter is forever, the former a pin prick. This from a hunter but sportsman, a conservative and vehiment second amendment supporter.

And just how would your intervention have manifested itself Graham? Would you have stepped between the Giraffe and shooter and defiantly shouted. "Shoot me, coward. I am but a humble man. This Giraffe is innocent. Take me and spare he of the long neck."

I find the killing of any animal for trophy distas... (show quote)

Old school trophy hunting might be OK...but certainly not in its current form with hired guides and protectors, etc (and as long as the animal is not endangered). Trophy hunting used to mean that you were willing to expose yourself to the dangers of both the big game and the environment. Now all it means is hat you are a rich a-hole.

As I have stated before I am a lover of Venison. Particularly from a cow Elk. In other words a meat hunter. I think horns hanging on a wall or a stuffed Pheasant or Bear only show the lack of decorating talent on the part of trophy hunters. I am not morally opposed. It just makes no sense to me. The animal in front of me does not stand a chance once in my sights. I often shoot a .338 Lapua which us capable of downing any animal on any continent instantly with one shot, save for maybe Elephant, Rhino and Hippo which I am not interested in killing because I am not interested in eating them. Likewise I have no interest in Cervid head ornamentation. Females are much tastier on the table and Elk or Moose or Antelope on the wall just look inferior to a well taken and printed image of the environment they inhabit. My take.

I don't like Trophy hunting...never did. I used to hunt & love to eat wild game! Much healthier IMO. But now I'd rather take their pics & frame them on my wall. Still the thrill of stalking & getting closer & capturing the shot.

Question: Why did you mention Automatic weapons? Nobody uses Automatic weapons to hunt with...those are Military weapons & are illegal to hunt with. It takes up to 6 months or even a year to get a Federal stamp/license to even possess an Automatic weapon! They do an exhaustive background check for each Stamp/license. The Federal Gov. has the right to enter your house anytime to check on your Automatic Weapon & Stamp. I believe you used the term in error did you not? My wife's family was very poor & if not for wild fish & game they would have gone hungry. She especially loved Bear meat. Nothing was ever wasted.

Ahh I see, so many equate SEMI-Auto with assault weapons as being one & the same. I use a SEMI auto shotgun when I used to hunt birds it is 50 years old now & was in existence way before the "Assault Weapons" came into being. For hunting it is restricted to a max of 3 shells. (It can hold 6 shells but is plugged by law to only 3 shells) It can be seized if I take it into the field without the plug in it.

It is in danger of being outlawed here in the States because legislators think it is an Automatic Weapon & want to pass blanket laws against them & /or seize them. So I try & make the distinction between the two.

If my type of shotgun has been legal & safe to own & use for 50 + years why should it be taken away now? Same for my SEMI-auto pistols.
