This kind of makes me wonder how the Doctrine of "no reasonable expectation of privacy" plays out with kids in a public park??

the same thing happened to me a few years ago in a state park. I had been to that park a few months before with no problem. with my camera on a tripod and taking pictures of people, boats and houses, I found myself approached be three officers. they ask for and took down my info aks asked to see my photos. they said someone complained that I took pictures of children. as that day I had film instead of digital cameras they couldn't see what I shot, and couldn't see a reason to confiscate my film. I was 74 at the time and riding a mobility scooter at the time. when I go to the parks now I make sure to avoid play areas.

The "kid" aka "Ahmed the bombmaker," created a deliberate bomb scare with a realistic looking fake bomb. Evidently the whole stunt was guided by his Islamic jihadist father, and his sister who had a history of a documented phoned in bomb threat against the same school. I don't know your IQ but you are unaware of the facts or else willing to lie about them.

Comments:

The police may have acted unlawfully in "searching" the photographer's camera device;

Many parents would be concerned if they saw someone photographing kids other than his own.

A few years ago I was enjoying a crab fest in a coastal South Carolina town. Great fun, wonderful food. I was using my Pentax K 10 with the battery grip and I had a bag with a couple of lenses. Suddenly I was accosted by a woman who demanded to know if I were from the newspaper. She didn't want any pictures of her in the newspaper. I tried to assure her that I was an amateur, shooting with my family just for my own amusement. I guess she finally believed me, because she left with a sour expression. Sort of soured my pleasure in the day, at least for a while. God must love a**holes, She made so many of them!

She was probably there with her boyfriend and was worried her husband might see their picture in the paper. :shock: :roll: :lol: :lol:

Hey it happened to me. I was sitting in my car trying out a new lens taking shots of sunlight coming through a wooded areas near my home in a quiet residential neighborhood. I was using a wide angle 30 mm lens, when a cop drove by and asked what I was doing. He told me a school bus driver had reported that I was possibly taking photos of children. There was not a single child on the street the entire time I was there. I explained what I was doing and even offered to show the officer the images I had taken although I didn't have to. He did not want to see them. I told him I lived down the street and was a neighbor of his boss, a captain in the local police department. He was polite and did not give me a hard time, and that was the end of it. But the experience was unnerving. I'm not upset with the bus driver. He or she was doing their due diligence. Too many kids are taken by strangers. Unfortunately the result is that I'm now very cautious when I'm out in public with my camera.

In the Mideast, Muslim terrorists have recently begun disguising themselves as journalists as a strategy to help them reach their targets. They have also disguised bombs as everything from toys to cameras. Perhaps we'll see these tricks used in the USA. Knowledge of them will lead to paranoia. Or realism.

But jihadists aside, suppose you were at a park and noticed someone taking photos of YOUR kid(s). What would you do?

We need to start doing the opposite, as in "Hey lady, move your kid outta my way! I'm trying to take pictures here!"

Don't know whether the above was correct, but it works for me... The kid is being honored by our president, that kinda seys sumpin to me though, although it just kinda confirms my high opinion of the mutt in the WH.

Ahmed the bombmaker was also honored by some of the leading terrorist supporters in the world, in addition to 'bama. Honored for WHAT? A bomb scare? No one seems able to articulate anything for which he should be honored.

The kid didn't 'build' a clock either. He took the guts out of a clock and put them in a small case. There are videos on the web showing how this was done and it took about 15 seconds. Got him a college scholarship.
