Mark WAS correct, the original methodology was less than desiable. Two different lenses shot on different days. One day admittedly with both some smoke and then some haze produced by an earlier rain, or not!
Not conditions under which I would ever compare anything !!!
If you want to make buying decision from that weak information, be my guest.

This is MT's standard MO. He throws out some pretty bad info, AND, when someone calls him on it, in this case Mark, his std. reply is to sling a barrage of personal insults at the poster then Cowardly disappears back into the Camera Cave(CC) while then others stoop even lower and proceed with insults and go to BAT, FOR him! Nice!!!

I have personally been the recipient of many of his insulting rampages just before he disappears into the CC leaving his entourage to finish the insults for him, which so many seem all to eager to do.
Even our surroundings are not immune. First, MT insults you as a person or as a group, then followed by insulting ones character and occupation, usually immediately followed by attacking one's geographical location, thus insulting every inhabitant in that state as well.

The purpose of MT's post are mostly to garner more sales for his store as he very openly is building his business on the backs of every Hog that buys from him, and there seem to be more than enough to keep him in business!!!

Will he come out of the CC long enough to sling insults at me now?! Even if he doesn't, he has all of you to do that for him.

This is a photography forum... Period. When somebody comes on here bragging about how well they spell, how smart they are, how highly educated they are....the first thing I do is go to your post and see how good your photography is!!! If it sucks, and most of the time it does...., on a photography forum..., it's the ONLY thing that counts!! Either you can back up all your pomp and insults with great photography or you CAN'T!!!
So before you start to insult someone or back up the insults of some other loser that can't shoot, make sure your photography can do some talking on its own, for you!! This IS a photography forum...., not a spelling bee.

If your IQ is fifty but you've won a Pulitzer Prize, not much else counts on a photography forum, unless of course, you're just trying to make sales!!!!
Mark has appropriately answered with some very nice pics! I don't see anybody answering those with their own pics.
Those that can do good photography are not afraid to post it. Those of you whose photography sucks, are wise to not prove that you can't shoot.
Your insults are speaking infinitely louder than you photography....., how typical!!!

Thank you for the validity and credibility. I really don't need to address MT any further. His name speaks volumes of poor advice, analysis and character. But what I found astounding where the fanboi's who made every personal attack one could imagine while never addressing the content of the discussion. When I look to see if these individuals had any background, I found none. What I did find where postings of poor travel pics, questions about basic camera operations and alike. Who are these people and why are they here?

Again, many thanks for your insight, levity and clarity.

This forum is mostly for amateurs and people just starting with photography and other things. We have professionals to help with buying choices, camera settings, etc. We have good teachers that can explain things to a layman and others that are hard to understand. Remember your school days. Some people need to move on if they have nothing constructive to contribute here. We have many very nice ordinary people and many nice professional people like MT Shooter and Captain C and tons of others that are willing to help. They expect nothing in return except respect. We tease each other and we have bad days. We say things we wish we could take back but most people understand that unless it carries on. I'm disappointed in administration for not weeding out the trouble makers. I won't say have a nice day because I will not tell anyone what to do.

I don't have any issues with make up of the membership. Nor do I have issues with asking basic questions or advanced questions. All questions are valid. I do have issues with bad advice from those who have appointed themselves as experts. If this is a place for answers, getting bad answers in not helpful and if you make expensive decisions on bad answers, it can really hurt. I don't want to see people hurt. I want them to enjoy this hobby/profession/discipline, improve their skill sets and create incredible art.

I made note that MT's analysis was lacking and faulty and he literally when on a personal offensive rampage. Did you not see that? Did you not read that? Did you not recognize that? And if not why not? Why did you engage in the same inflammatory remarks and the personal attacks that you abhor? Can you answer why? Would you join a street mob and throw rocks at an an individual?

As for weeding out trouble makers, this is an open public forum. Admin is not going to weed out anything as that would destroy the "open" format. It is not a membership, no fees are paid. Yes, other sites would discipline and ban but there are few truly open formats as these. You would know this by looking at the content of what goes on in the chit-chat forums where anything and everything goes and it is not about photography.

Why did you participate in this?

That's just your opinion and you're entitled to it. Other people have been removed from this forum.
"Why did you participate in this?" Because MT is a professional photographer. He has helped me and many others when I first got started in photography and never steered me wrong. I respect him and his knowledge.

There is a BIG difference here. I was critiquing his approach not him as a person. Do you not understand the difference? Did you find anything in my initial post that was personally derogatory or inflammatory?

You can defend him as you like but you did not defend. You attacked me. What does that say about your character?

You attacked his character and his business. No decent respectable person would do that. Some people don't have the ability to run a pay toilet. Now it's time to hit unwatch. PM will be deleted.

Whoa.. Check the sequence of events.

1. He posted a comparison of two lenses
2. I disagreed with the methodology and conclusions
3. He started with name calling, idiot, etc., etc.

A that point the gloves come off and I am going to retaliate in kind. Who wouldn't? I am not one to turn the other cheek. How about you?

There can not be a double standard. He throws garbage, I am going to grown it back. If you don't want it, don't throw it.

As for the "UNWATCH" button, look for the one that says "UNSUBSCRIBE".

I would like to see how the Nikkor 80-400mm lens compares to these two.

Thanks for the link Gene. I was wondering when you would surface.

Based on the MTF curves the 200-500 looks very good.

There is a membership fee. I belong to both this and http://www.fredmiranda.com Both of these are great sites with FM into all camera's and of course Nikonians into Nikon only. Hope this helps!

Thanks.

You have more patience than me. I won't pay a fee for a web site, and FM only accepts certain kinds of email addresses for membership. I don't have the email address FM likes so I'm not over there either.

Not sure about not liking an email address; mine is the following: joe@angelsonwheels.com It is my own and have used it for about 15 years now.

I have hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo email accounts and FM doesn't accept any of them in order to join.
