Once again, shallow information. Why not talk about the differences among CP's such as materials, construction, coatings, weight, thickness, reduction in light, vignetting, etc? Why not mention that some manufactures such as Lee provide a square polarizer that quickly clips on and off the lens and with an adapter can be used on lenses of different sizes?

Go ahead, now call me a moron and other names as you have done... go ahead. Please stay on character.

As for the OP's question about cheap or not, there are significant differences with CP's. Brand name alone does not guarantee quality.

The OP didn't ask any of those questions. MTShooter answered the question asked. If you think all those other things are important, why didn't you educate us on them?

I understand the benefits of using this filter and I'm looking at purchasing one shortly. I see where I can purchase a 58mm, 67mm, 77mm, 82mm…etc .

I don't understand the significance of the numbers and what they mean in practical terms. I also noticed as the numbers go up the price goes up significantly. Can anyone explain in laymen terms?

I've also read where not to buy a cheap one. Thanks so much!

You are correct in not buying cheap. For years I had been happy with Hoya HMC CPLs. However, not as happy after taking someone's advice and buying B&W CPLs. A bit more money, but well worth it. If you are new to photography, or for that matter, new to CPLs, you may want to try the Hoya, but please get the HMC (Hoya Multi-Coated), for your purposes, it may well be just what the doctor ordered. If you do purchase the Hoya and discover that it is not suited for your purposes, hang on to it in case of emergencies, it is still a quality item to have in your bag as a spare. Good question. In this hobby or discipline there is so much information swirling around in our heads, heck even lenses now come with Central Processing Units. In other words, it comes down to trial and error. Thanks, Tonytee.

Are you an idiot? The OP asked directly about the numbers (67, 77 mm etc) but his question was really about PRICES. In fact, he states, "I read where not to buy cheap". Size is only one part of the cost factor in CP. Why don't you read the entire post and ALL MY comments. Only an idiot would miss the information I provided. After you have read it, then come back and I will help you. Apparently you need it.

BTW, you must also have issues with amfoto1 dissertation on the topic or could you not understand that either? Typical and pathetic...

Excuse me the question was also about prices. They don't go up in price just because of size. They go up in price based upon the quality of CP. Clearly the OP is looking for more information. I think you are the dumb-ass here, and likely would just purchase any dumb-ass CP without ever inquiring about the quality in its components or its construction. I don't hear any complaints from anyone else just the MT fanbois.

BTW - you are no photographer either. The images you posted are liken to that of a five year old. Harsh shadows, blowout highlights. non-compelling composition. Do you even know how to post process? Your're right about one thing. Your wife does post better images than you, and likely just about anyone else.

Let MT defend himself or not... What, he messaged you to defend him? Sounds about right...

You really need to get a life. You sound extremely bitter. BTW my wife has never posted a photograph. You cannot even spell. Your're is not even a word. Gibberish must be your middle name. I will not argue with someone who needs therapy.
BTW you post is moot and defense is not you strong suit.

It is good advice to buy the larger filter, but a step-UP ring is required to attach it to a smaller size lens. Use a step-DOWN ring to attach a smaller filter to a larger size lens.

Bad idea/advice!

You're pathetic... You're posted work speaks volumes in a lack of skill sets, knowledge and abilities. Don't come in here and dare try to converse on any topic related to photography because frankly you are not qualified.

Example: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-316840-1.html. Your question to the membership

"I was re-reading my manual for the Nikon D750 about bracketing and I was wondering why I should bracket? Question ultimately is if I can change the picture in PP in Photoshop by changing the brightness and the contrast why do I need to bracket if they do the same thing? The advantage I see is less memory occupied and ultimately less work. Any thoughts?"

Wow. Keep re-reading that manual. You don't have a clue....as I said you're pathetic....and your posted work is representative of your lack of understanding, not only in how the camera works, but include post processing, composition and light... Bracketing is not simply about increasing brightness or contrast. lololol It is about getting a properly exposed image from a challenging light situation where both bright highlights and dark shadows are present. Taking a 3-5-7-9 or more images at different exposures into PS will blend all of those frames into one properly exposed image. It is not so much a question of how as much as when to bracket or not. A photographer would know that. But you are no photographer.

Nope, not according to several organizations who have provided me scoring results based on their intelligence tests. I also have manners and don't go around insulting people and calling them names.

Let's reread that original post.

How many question marks do you see? You are right that the sentence "I've also read where not to buy a cheap one." is a statement.

I'm quite sure that my comprehension and educational skills don't need any help from you. Based on your lack of courtesy and tact, I don't think you possess the patience and empathy necessary to be much of an educator.

I have no issues with amfoto1. He provides excellent information to this site on a consistent basis. He did a very good job of providing the information that you were unable to articulate, as I ask you to do in my initial post.

You may now resume your normal name calling and tirades.

I am pleased you took an intelligence test. Likely you had some self doubts. I have those same doubts.

Patience and tact are not relevant. They are subjective values. What issues do you have with the content I provided? You did not mention any so apparently there are none.

There is hypocrisy in your last statement. I provided similar but not as through information as amfoto1 but none the less provided information on a CP that identifies other criteria other than size that would add cost, none of which you mentioned. You chose to get personal and now you are pathetically trying to rationalize and justify.

That in part is the definition of an idiot. Better retake those intelligence tests..

No self doubts, just meeting requirements for various jobs.

I have made no personal statements about you. Calling somebody an idiot is making a personal and insulting statement; something you do in each of your posts.
Why do you want to irritate and antagonize everybody you respond to? I admit some of the posts here are sometimes silly. The spread of photography knowledge on this site is really wide. Try being nice to people, it gets you lots farther with folks. I know you can do it!

TOAST: After reading your topics and your posts, I strongly suggest that you use the UHH Search and also google and do reading before you ask questions like this one which suggest to many that you are putting on!!!

It is the responsibility on any student to do fundamental research on their own. There are many articles and you tube tutorials that hold a persons hand and walk them thru the basics... give that a try... by the way filters have right hand threads in the northern hemisphere.

Wouldn't it have been easier to say it is a measurement of size? Isn't it the fundamental responsibility of a "teacher" to encourage and answer questions? What you have done is put a damper on an obvious novice who now may be disinclined to ask questions in the future. Nice!

Ditto MT Shooter. OP's question was plain and simple, merely asking about the filter diameter, nothing else. Read and understand the question yourself before you shoot your mouth off criticizing others who answered what was asked.

Is this forum the domain of only the "elite" photographer? Why is it that some feel the need to belittle and demean those who pose, what they feel, are legitimate, honest questions? Obviously those who inflict such wrath upon others simply don't have enough to do!

To the overwhelming majority of members who are considerate and respectful, I say THANK YOU! As a novice photographer, I have learned more here, than anywhere else. Hmm? Learning....don't we all have to start somewhere?

You have a problem with a complex and it appears you have an inferiority complex and try to mask it with a superiority complex. I post question not because I do not know but I post questions to stimulate thought. You should give up the arguments while you are behind. Every time you post you show you ignorance and lack of understanding. You are intolerant of others, loathsome, disgusting, vile, ignorant and worst of all a know-it-all.
