Thank you Albuqshutterbug. I will try that on my next attempt, as well as trying it with my Canon t3i. Oddly, I get much better moon shots with my Nikon P510 bridge camera than with my Canon, even using the same settings. So my Nikon is my go-to camera for sky shots. My guess, from seeing some of the stellar shots of galaxies and astrophotography on this website, is that I probably need more extensive equipment as well as experience.
I've seen good reviews on this Canon so don't dismiss based on a few photos that didn't come out the way you wanted. Much of shooting Astrophotography is technique and that takes practice.
There is a Jimmy Buffet song that I like to use when I get irritated with my work. "Relax, Breath in, Move on..."
Keep trying and follow the advise you get. Its the cheapest thing we have going here and everyone just gives it away like its Christmas.
You'll have to decide what you keep and what goes back to the Walmart return counter.
And I forgot to say welcome to our neck of the world.
