I didn't really know either until I sent two of them back to Sigma for the change on behalf of a customer, I had to ask my rep at Sigma exactly what was involved, that's how I found out. They have to go back to Japan for this work as it is not done at the Sigma USA service center.

Thank you MT Shooter for your wisdom! And such a Beautiful state you put as your Location.

I have a D7200 backup with a 16-80mm lens. Great camera and tack sharp lens!

Hi UHH, I presently have the Nikon D810 that I truly enjoy, recently I was enjoying a photo shoot and realized I need a back up. I have some nice Nikon lens and without Breaking the bank I am strongly considering the Nikon 7200,
I have always had an extra camera and found that my Sony a6000 with Zeiss 32 1.8 lens was not truly working for me. I did concider the D750 but I think the other $ thousand could be used to purchase Lens. Any thoughts about the D7200, like ,dislike, I did have the Nikon D700&D300 and many other Nikons prior.

Given that the 7200 produces great images; if money was not an issue, wouldn't another full frame be the most preferable back up?

I've always like have identical or similar bodies, just to make it easier when I'm using both cameras. When I reach for a camera, I know where the controls will be without thinking about which camera I'm holding. Aside from my D750's, I occasionally use a D5200, and I have to stop and think. (I hate that.)

I have a D750 as my primary camera but also have a D7100 as my backup. As stated by others, in a lot of situations the IQ difference between the two is almost imperceptible. In low light the full frame is superior but the 7100 is still acceptable. Most of my lenses are FX but I do have a couple of DX lenses (Nikon 10-24 & Tamron 16-300). The 7200 is everything the 7100 is with a larger buffer , and I have heard, slightly better low light auto focus. I am very happy with my combination and I think you would the 7200 as a backup.

Why not try a D5200, for the articulated screen? I have found it invaluable for making taking photographs a LOT easier, using the live view is a little more convenient than squinting through a tiny damn viewfinder, but being able to aim the camera hi, low, any angle and tilt the screen at you perfectly is something I have fallen in love with. I was going to trade up to the 7200, essentially the same camera, for a few extra perks like more automatic bracketed photos per shot, but realized that I almost wouldn't trade that tilt screen ability for anything except maybe a full frame camera.

Bruce,
I was of the opinion that a DX camera crop factor also applies to an increase of the f/ number by the crop factor, in this case 1.5... i.e. f/3.5 becomes 1.5x3.5=f/5.25. I hope i am wrong!

If your lenses are primary for the D810, I would go with the D750, this would give you identical coverage, you can then just concentrate on FX lenses. I believe that the D750 is better in low light than the D7200 plus you have the tilting back on the D750, and the only faster full frame DSLR in the Nikon line is the D4s, with costs a little more than the D750.

There are times when a crop camera and that "field of view" that it provides comes in handy. I kept my D7000 when I bought my D800 and it's still a great combination with my fx 28-300mm.

It may give you a cropped image, but it does not increase the magnification of the image, so why bother taking the lens off your D810?

If I put a 1.4tc on my D810 with my 200-400mm f4 I get 280-560mm at f5.6 the same lens on my D7100 without a TC gives me an effective view of 300-600mm at f4. Why post crop when I can shoot it direct,

Loss of quality due to the 1.4.
