Thanks!

Not in the contest.

I like more of both as well. Unfortunately some seems to get lost in translation when I post on UH.

Other than both having the same focal range, nothing at all. The "C" is the consumer build version while the "S:" is the Pro build, fully weather sealed version, its also about $900 higher in price.

Question. Would heat and cold have anything to do with the composite (plastic) barrel on the Sigma C and the metal barrel on the Sigma S lens?

Not really. The C is still mostly metal, but the combination of magnesium and polycarbonate components is very hard to weather seal due to their varying expansion/contraction rates. This is why almost all weather sealed lenses are all metal composition.

Thank you. I like your new avatar. Is that a selfie with the new lens?

Good answer. I was wondering how you would answer. I will change mine as soon as I find a picture of a grumpy old man. Maybe someone will find one for me.

Finally got back to my lens. It is an attractive machine. Appears well built. A little heavier and bulkier than my Sigma 150-500. It didn't come with the strap or nice padded case of the Sigma. Ordered a case from Amazon because I think it is important: my Sigma rolled off the over cab bunk in its case and was undamaged.

Below are a few initial images taken with my D5300. I can't say they are appreciably better than with my Sigma 150-500. Focus seems snappier and VR seems to hold image better in viewfinder. These are handheld: I'm sure it will do better on a tripod.

I will test it later on my D800. I don't expect much improvement there till I get a teleconverter. I'm currently wavering between the Kenko and Nikon teleconverter. Advice?

You got the Nikon lens--my advice would be to go with the Nikon converter...
