Several TV stations have done away with the on-the-scene cameraman, making the reporter set up the camera and shoot his own report. Now a Swiss station has done away with the cameras, replacing them with iPhones.

Yeah, I watched some of the interviews after the football (the Chiefs) debacle last night. You could see reporters holding up their smart phones to the speaker instead of a microphone.

In addition, we are going to see a great infussion of 3D printers in the near future; so much so, that reporters will be replaced altogether by 3D figures holding iphones.

Stations have been experimenting with tablets and Iphones. The quality is almost there and will be soon. It's great for the technology but bad for photographers. Being a freelance photojournalist, I know what is happening to our industry but the technology roller-coaster is seemingly unstoppable. The combine that with everyone wanting free photos or videos the future isn't real good for photographers. However, I think commercial photography will be with us for a long time. I hope.

Personally I worry about quality. I see bigger newer and sharper TV for sale and are they defeating us on the backside? Some of the TVs are so sharp it is incredible. But the transmission is not up to snuff.

The ultra high quality displays may force video producers to go back to more expensive cameras and lenses. You get what you pay for. Based on the 4K Ultra HD TVs I've seen, second-rate photos and video will simply not be acceptable.
