This was part of a controlled photo runby I took part in a few years ago . I was on the tracks as train came into tunnel . Engineer hopefully new where to stop . Hair raising with this 70 ton brute coming at you and stopping within 10 feet then he has the nerve to blow the whistle inside the tunnel . Smoke , steam , soot , noise what we don't do to get that special shot !

Coming !

Glad it seems it was planned and you had permission. Still seems a bit dangerous. A Steam Engine too. Not too many of those still running in California. Everything freight is diesel.

Amazing shots thought!

In the cities they get all picky about standing on the tracks to get a photo. In fact the AmTrak, Metro-Rail, or what have you security see you standing on their tracks they call the Police on you. So I found I can photograph tracks and trains from the street crossings, that way I am on a public street and not on train company property.

I hate to admit this but I remember those old coal fired engines and you didn't want to be any where near them when they went by especially if there was a stiff wind. They really put out a lot of smoke. I miss them, they were such majestic machines.

Glad it seems it was planned and you had permissio... (show quote)

A bit risky yes they must have thought so to as we had to sign a waiver of liability .
