My new Nikon 200-500 f5.6 lens arrived from B&H yesterday. I know there is interest this new Nikon zoom, and being lucky to get an early copy I thought I would risk a post.
Disclaimer: I am just an enthusiast, I am sharing my initial images simply because I haven't seen any others posted. I haven't posted an image before so.... being new at this, what you see is what you get.
I have used the new 200-500 on both my D600 and D7100. Auto focus seems fast and accurate to me. My images are not modified, all jpeg's straight from the camera. All images are 200 ISO. I will try to add 3 shots from the 7100 also.
I don't have another "long" lens to do comparisons. I did take a few test shots comparing a distant license plate with my 70-200 f/4 at 200/f5.6 and new Nikon at 200f/5.6 and could not see any significant difference in number/letter clarity at full magnification.
I was able to handhold this lens and achieve "acceptable" results. I think it will be great on a monopod at high school football games pushing the ISO a bit - which is one of many tests I am looking forward to playing with.
I've only had it for a couple of days, but I don't think it is going back to B&H.
