In the AF section of the 7DII's menu screen 1 is the AF Configuration Tool. It allows the selection of six "Cases", starting with a multipurpose one. These determine how the AF will respond to changing conditions. For example, when shooting some of the critters that visit my property I often use Case 2, with the Detail settings at -1, 1, & 1. Seems to work pretty well for me under my conditions. Just curious as to what other 7DII owners have found to be a good combination for other circumstances, such as BIF or sporting events.

I haven't had the opportunity to try out the different cases very much but I am going to follow this thread. I'm very interested in what other have to say.

I did use case 1 and my Tamron 150-600 to capture some hummingbirds.
The AF grabbed focus almost instantly and as long as I could keep the little critters in my viewfinder the AF kept them in sharp focus. Considering how "twitchy" these little creatures are it is amazing how flawlessly the AF performed!!

I use Case 4 for Football with no adjustments. Case one for general purpose use.

What is the best instruction book that you know that explains the AF Cases?? I do not have the Mark II yet - but I'm hoping soon.

Yep. The screen goes to a blank PDF which I am unable to scroll down on. Rats I really would like to have this.

Use Adobe Acrobat reader. If you try to use "preview" or the windows equivalent you'll get the password thingy.

I use case 2 all the time, it works best for me shooting equine and high school sports.

Yeah.....I was cursing Canon for password protecting a public document.......and a PDF file of all things.
It is definitely weird.
