A Daughter just got a selfie stick for her Birthday.
When I get the chance, I plan on telling her where to stick it....

Taking pictures at Sunrise seems to seperate the serious from the seriously self consumed.

Yea, just like those damn Color movies. Black and White were good enough and the producers and directors made them Black and White for a reason. These young people and their ridiculous fads are just too much to put up with!

I lived in China for four years and experienced "selfies" at every site you can imagine. Here's my take on it. The population as a whole is highly competitive with one another. It is about "face", "see, I'm (more likely "we") have made it. I (we) can be here and you can't. Have seen the mess that Chinese females leave on the ground after peeing. Why do they do it? Probably it is a loss of face if they pick up their paper. Try to imagine that each day you have to go out and prove to everyone that you are better than they are.
How does one get around this "mess"? Most likely through what is known as "guanxi", or relationship. What one does is slowly find others with whom you could do business with, or whose daughter you could marry, etc.
Lying, cheating, cutting corners, spreading legs are just a part of life.
Everyone was always trying to be my "friend" (with strings attached). I was grabbed by mothers asking if I woul like to marry their daughters.
That is the dark side. Once one understands the rules, one actually develop "honest/authentic" friendships. It just takes just and patience.

Here are two of mine. One with a brand new Pentax K1000 and flash (w/o a selfie stick), and one with a brand new Sigma 150-500 and a carbon-fiber selfie stick. (I was in Montana--no sales tax--and the wife said "yes." Since she was in Houston, TX at the time, I figured she was saying "yes" to camera equipment and not something else.)

A good example on the proper use and value of the selfie-stick.

Anybody else notice the Nationality of Miss Chu?

It's a wonder she isn't cutting off paws, and carving out gall bladders.

I have never understood this " Selfie." Those kind of people seem to be so caught up in their selves and think the rest of the world is interested in seeing picture of them in various settings. I think it is arrogant. Just my opinion. bb

That's why they are called "selfies"!!!

I guess letting Darwin's theory run its course isn't all that politically correct. Plus it's a little hard on repeat business...

If you read the article more carefully, which obviously you didn't, you would have noted that the lady said the picture was taken from a park observation deck with Rangers present. Or, maybe you just like making rude, derogatory comments about people you don't know based solely on their ethnicity. Major fail.

Apparently you live in a bubble, Jim.
I use to live in Northern California (albeit that's about ancient history now). The heart of Mendocino County.
At the time the bear population was being decimated by poachers. And the carcasses where usually found with the paws removed, and the gall bladders removed, and the rest left to waste. (Which helped to located the stinking carcasses)
The paws and gall bladders were found to being illegally smuggled to China for the medicinal powers they believe the parts hold.
So whom is a major fail here, bud?
Your ignorance of events and facts leaves a bit to be desired.

Also, you did not experiance the rudeness, and irritation that we and several other travelers experienced from groups of people of Asian origin (Chinese) in Alaska. Particularly on the train from Denali to Anchorage. But also in Denali itself.

But hey, keep your head in the mud up there in Rio Vista bud. Good place for you. ;)

In no way would I condone the behavior you describe, and yes I am aware that such atrocities happen. The fact that they do, however, doesn't justify lumping this individual in with those others on the sole basis of her ethnicity.

I have no problem with your distaste for people who would harm wildlife for greed, but I do have a problem with those who unfairly stereotype others, and I don't mind calling them on it.

Anyway, back to selfie sticks. I've been thinking of getting one to use in knocking down drones! 😈

I have a really nice walking stick I made from a manzanita branch.
It has a shape on one end that looks like a footprint, the heavier end is about 1-1.25".
It would seriously put a drone out of your way permanently.
Very hard, very heavy wood.

I'd dare say it could work for drones OR selfie sticks hoovering in your way. ;) Peace.
