I like the fact that you can get this in different colors. Does it have a ballhead?

Yes it does, from the tripod listing(just scroll down):

The BackPacker comes with a dual action Q series ballhead with Arca-Swiss style quick release plate. Carry case with shoulder strap included.

Depends completely on your camera/lens weight and needs. I have their lightweight aluminum model for travel and their heavy duty graphite for landscapes. Sorry, I don't have the model numbers at hand right now.

First ran into them on sale at Costco, but haven't seen them there in some time.

They are availaable through Costco online only.

Amazon sells that line as well....That said, I use a much more expensive tripod & ballhead from 3 Legged thing. Way above her budget. The MeFoto is a knockoff of the 3 legged Thing line. I also shoot with both a D7100 & a D300. The heavy lenses I use are the 80-200 F2.8 Nikkor, the 80-400mm Nikkor, & an older 300mm F4.5 Nikkor...

The link above goes to a Dolica that Costco sells. You won't find a better price. Good luck.

I recently upgraded from an old inexpensive aluminum tripod that I've had for a few years and just didn't like due to it's instability. I upgraded to this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LUUHDPO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

These come in different names but it's a great tripod with a very good ball head attached. You can also unscrew one of the legs and use it as a monopod when needed. Weight was an issue for me as well as I'm 70 and can't carry as much as I use to. This tripod is also MUCH smaller that my old unit and weighs in a little less.

I'm always leery of items sold online that are not also sold by the big players in photo gear like B&H or Adorama.... Not saying the obscure brands aren't good, but if they are, why are they not sold at the "Pro" stores ?

I am wanting to get a tripod for under $200. It will not be used for professional use, just as a serious hobby. Any suggestions for what would be the best one for the money? Thank you.

MeFoto makes a pretty good line of very stout tripods, etc. Here's a link to help you decide which is better for you.

http://www.mefoto.com/products/help-me-choose

Most of them are well under the $200 limit you requested.

I carry one with me 95% of the time for that one time I'd need one, but didn't bring my Gitzo. MeFoto products are a small carry size, but work pretty well when you need a tripod. They will extend to a reasonably usable size.

Benro is another one that's very good. There offer both Aluminum and Carbon Fiber tripods at very good prices.

I am also, normally, but I use to work in the industry at the wholesale level and know from experience that dealers (even the largest) can't possibly carry all the brands. Some times you find a new up and coming brand that suits your needs just right. For what it is this is an excellent tripod for the price point.

Sounds good except that I need a lightweight one since I am too old to carry a heavy one. Thank you.
That said, my suggestion of a 3221 or 3021 with added large ball head might be in question as it will weigh in somewhere between 6.5-7.5 lbs. With that said, it should be noted that weight is a friend in terms of stability. There is always a trade off. A good carry strap also makes a big difference as well. What part of Indiana do you live?

My carbon fiber 70" Dolica is currently on sale at the Dolica website for $199.99, exactly one penny under your limit. For that penny, you could actually pay for 1 hour of parking in downtown Marshall, MI, set up the tripod and camera, take photos, and probably meet some of my in-laws:

http://www.dolica.com/tripods/dolica-cx700b505-ds-70-carbon-fiber-tripod

I can successfully support my Nikon D750 and 80-400 lens, without creep, as well as lesser weight combinations. I can also unscrew one of the legs, take out the center column, and construct a monopod that is up to 7' tall. The system is very cleverly designed, but pay attention the first time you unpack it, because it has to go back into the travel bag exactly the same way it came out (I generally loosen all of the ball head knobs to facilitate adjustments in bagging it). Also, make sure the Arca-Swiss style plate is the correct size, as they sent me an incorrect one.

My overall impression of Dolica is that they make excellent products for very reasonable prices, but they have an extremely small (but cooperative) customer service department. Once you get the system set up the way you need it, it's hard to beat the quality for the price.

Of course I have no connection to Dolica except as a satisfied user of their products.

I would STRONGLY suggest contacting MT Shooter who just happens to own a store in Montana and who is a professional photographer. He will not only be able to give you great advice, but he will able to provide you needs. He also, normally, has a large assortment of used gear which will both save some cash and allow you to get a better setup. No, he is not a relative, but his advice, on here, has been very good in the opinion of myself and most of the other "Hoggers".
