I use Induro AT313 which runs around $185. It is really sturdy. I have heard good things about the MeFoto also and I think it is a lot lighter. I didn't really care about the weight, I just wanted something that would hold my "investments" very securely! :-)

If cost is an issue, I would suggest a Welt Safelock Professional. I just checked and there are quite a few on Ebay at very reasonable prices. I have had and used one for decades. Solid, simple to adjust, but not particularly light. Though I have never used one, there is a plate you can mount to be able to change cameras quickly.

Sounds good except that I need a lightweight one since I am too old to carry a heavy one. Thank you.

I like this Slik as a good all around legs/base for the money. - http://www.amazon.com/Slik-700DX-Super-Titanium-Tripod/dp/B001GIOKPQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435097422&sr=8-1&keywords=tripod+legs

I also like the Manfro #322 grip action ball head for the same reasons- though this will take you over budget somewhat ....

I will look into this also. Thanks for the info.

I own a MeFOTO monopod (in orange) and have been very pleased with the quality of their manufacturing. You can purchase a ball head from MeFOTO or check out other options at B&H, Adorama or Amazon.

I will check on this also. Thanks.

I have a lot of options available here. I will check on all of them and then make my difficult decision. Thank you.

I haven't heard of the Dolica tripods but will check them out. Any specific one? Thank you.

Depends completely on your camera/lens weight and needs. I have their lightweight aluminum model for travel and their heavy duty graphite for landscapes. Sorry, I don't have the model numbers at hand right now.

First ran into them on sale at Costco, but haven't seen them there in some time.

You should really go to a camera store and look at tripods lift them some have center pols others don't. Tripods get heavy.

The only camera store near here is very small with very little selection, and that one is about a half hour drive. ( With a very pushy saleslady.) The next nearest would be about a 2 hour drive. Thanks for the suggestion, but not a good possibility for me.

I am wanting to get a tripod for under $200. It will not be used for professional use, just as a serious hobby. Any suggestions for what would be the best one for the money? Thank you.

The link above goes to a Dolica that Costco sells. You won't find a better price. Good luck.

I posted a link yesterday to a list of good photo gear. In the list was a Vanguard tripod. I have a Vanguard Tracker (no longer being made). I'll see if I can find the model.

I got a Vanguard for under $200. Does everything quite easily and there is no trouble with the weight I put on it.

Above is the one I got for travel. It fits neatly into

which can be worn on a belt.
