Very nice photos and they are fun to watch and photograph. And yes they do have different coats and markings and different tails also...Rich

Thank you Rich. I suspect they would be great to photograph since they're plentiful and seem willing to pose or at least not vanish at the sight of a camera. :-)

Thank you Jim. I had one in my scalp a couple of months ago, sent it to a lab for ID. Thankfully it was a dog tick.

 Sure glad it wasn't a deer tick then eh?

Me, too. Every time I pull one off of a dog or myself, I'm thankful it's not a deer tick. Still, I hate to see such a small animal with such a large tick. I believe rodents are a primary host to larval stage ticks, the worst kind.

FYI the common dog tick is Dermacentor variabilis. Now, aren't you glad you know this? You can throw that one out at a party and "wow" people! :-)

Thank you FB. Sometimes raccoons are right on the money, but can you really trust them? :-)

I'm glad you enjoyed these and appreciate your comments.

Lol! That's a good question!

Cute critters. I especially like #3. Too bad about the "passenger"

Thanks for the visit randave. At some point the passenger will fall off. Hope it doesn't invite friends before it leaves.

Very good shots, Vicki! They're adorable! Looks like a tic on the last one; it "he" the passenger?

Very nice series of shots. We have those in Colorado and there they are called Rock Squirrels. We personally give names to all our squirrel and chipmunk varieties, and the rock squirrel became "Louie Hoover" because the first time we saw one he/she was sucking up sunflower seeds like a Hoover vac. His full cheeks made him look kinda like a hoover also.

Thanks for the visit and wonderful reply Ron - my first laugh of the day! We don't have any of these guys living close, otherwise I would name them, too.:-)

Our little Chickaree (pine) squirrels became "Leroy Brown" because they were the baddest squirrels around - the littlest squirrel would chase off everything else, regardless of size. Prettiest squirrels we have are the Aberts, both black and gray varieties. The grays are absolutely beautiful.

Naturally, the Golden Mantle Ground Squirrels became "Chipper" because they look just like the Chip 'n Dale chipmunks from Walt Disney. The real chipmunks we have (Least Chipmunks) we call Chippees. Our black oil sunflower seed bill prolly exceeds our personal grocery bill. Worth every penny to watch all the interactions between these little guys and the birds.

Squirrels don't come into our yard, so I get excited whenever I see them. I would love to have as many different varieties as you.

The closest I come to anything remotely resembling a squirrel is our resident chinchilla. I think he's now about 15, the last of many we've raised. They were going to be a coat, but they'd leave as soon as I moved! Never did get them trained. :-)
