We have lots of coyotes and wolves here in Montana. Rarely do I see such great shots. This is called "mousing." Fun to see them do this in the snow too. Thanks for sharing. Excellent captures.
Once again thank you so much for the kind words and the warm welcome :) I got lucky to find such a nice coyote - one of the best I've seen really. Plus, not tags which is always a bonus. I'm just glad he was cooperative!

Welcome to UHH, Steve. Great shots of the coyote. Because you are new here you may not be aware that there will be a photo get-together at Salt Lick Park on the 19th. Erv and Jack have organized it so it should be the ultimate day-in-the-park. This is from Erv: "It is going to be at Salt Fork State Park The park in just North of the intersection of 70 and 77. north on 77. This is east of Columbus. We will be meeting at the Lodge that is in the park. And I think around 9 or 10 would be good."

Again, welcome and hope you can join us, just leave the coyotes at home.

Thanks for letting me know. However, I'm going to be up in MI that week. Maybe next year?

Thanks - I would LOVE to see them doing this in the snow!! I've been to YNP a few times in the fall when there was some snow, just never got it together with a 'vote - yet :)
Great stuff; I sure would like to know what equipment and settings you used. Thanx
Welcome. I follow your site too. You are a fabulous photogger and I look forward to your input on UGHH.
Thanks again everyone :)
@George - Thanks :) This was with a Nikon D4, 600mm VR + 1.4TC. My settings were a little much this time - ISO 1000 and 1/3200th at F6.3. I was shooting Aperture Priority (I now usually use manual mode + auto ISO) and it had been a bit darker just before this image. The overcast became brighter as I approached the coyote and I should have dropped the ISO a touch since I could have gotten away with less shutter speed. However, the D4 doesn't really look bad at 1000 either, so no biggie.
Just prowled your web site. Beautiful photos. I'm very jealous of all the cool places you have been.
