I love this shot, however as you can see the noon day sun was particularly strong. I know it's a bit out of focus on the hummer, but I like it overall, just not enough color and detail in the flower. Have a go at it if you would like.

This may be a slight improvement.

I brought it into Lightroom, lowered highlights, lowered whites, increased blacks, increased clarity and vibrance.
Here are two variations done in Light Zone - a free program

Loc: FL in the winter & MN in the summer
I lightly painted the bright spots with the same color as the rest of the petals, sharpened slightly and adjusted contrast throughout.

Love the drama of this one!
a little lightroom magic exposure, clarity, sharpening, saturation and the new dehaze feature.

Here it my take on this very lovely pic.

I very much like this photo. Not sure if you did much PP. If it were mine I think I would leave it alone and enter it into a show. Having said that you wanted a bit more detail and I think less blown out areas because of the bright sun. I might have mis understood your request but here is my version. All done in Photoshop. Created 2 same photos and rotated second one to use for flower pedals. Did a bunch of cloning. Increased contest and brightness and changed mid-tone curves in the flower only. Never touched the Hummingbird.
The blown stuff is tricky, and SonyA580 did a good job with the colours, but it probably needs more than just painting over. Yooper may have the right idea......
However, if you're determined to stay real, a straight edit has its merits. Hopefully the flower and hummer are eye-grabbing enough that the viewer isn't going to notice the bright bits :) .

I cannot thank you all enough for these edits and the info. I am running out of time today to reply to each one of you, am getting ready to take my son for a very serious spinal operation tomorrow. Please know that I will be checking this post as often as I can but the operation is going to take nine hours and I don't know what kind of connection I"ll have. I am in awe of the skill here, know I need to learn PS to a far greater degree and yes I"m trying to decide wether or not to enter this in a contest. My other selection I will post. Technically it is better, but as Linda said, this one has better drama. I have to decide tonight to make the deadline. What to do? what to do?
