You probably remember Roger DeCoster, Adolph Weil, the Jones brothers, Joel Robert, Brad Lacky, Torsten Holman leathers and Koni shocks. I even remember when Jerry Studolka showed up in the Inter Am series wearing a hockey mask.
I saw Brad Lacky race in the support class before he moved up.
I switched my CZ to Koni shocks with Girling springs like I said in earlier post the suspension on those old bikes was not nearly as good as what they have today.

Especially the Japanese bikes the Husky CZ and Maco was the thing to have back then.

Early 70's? Don't forget Montessa Capra and Bultaco Pursang!

Maicos for me. Even took a 501, made a drag bike out of it.

I wouldn't get out of the electric chair to get on a motorcycle

I raced a 501 in AMA and sleeved it down to 490 for FIM.

(1970's) Had bultacos, huskys,cz's,maicos before Honda finally came out with a competitive production class bike (CR480R, 1983). Still get out of the electric chair to ride my YZ250, YZ450F and BMW K1200RS!

By the way, my Maicos had a full floating rear brake. It made a big difference. I also turned my rear koni shocks upside down. That also made a big difference especially in the washboards. Small air gap on the top. When turned upside down, the air gap was gone due to gravity of fluid.

I had a custom built frame from mountain view, ca that facilitated a 400 cz motor and 17" fox shocks (first cantalievered long travel rear shocks) but the front suspension didn't have as much travel and was a bit disconcerting.

I have never talked with anyone who had a whole new frame except DeCoster and Robert when they were riding the titanium framed Suzukis. I didn't speak their language so it was difficult. How did yours handle? Did it handle like a CZ?
