I can not afford buying gear all the time. In fact I rarely do. I bought the D3100 with the 18-55 and 55-300 kit lenses. I thought it was ok but began feeling I could do so much better with better equipment.

Since that is out of the question, I just kept learning and refining my knowledge and techniques with the D3100. Well low and behold, my photos have just gotten better and better. In fact many are right there with the best of them. Did my gear automatically morph into something better, or, maybe it is just me.

Well I think I have the proper solution. After reading some of your great responses I think it would be best to learn my D3200 inside and out, while at the same time sharpening my new era DSLR skills. I have found there to be a few differences mostly in how the camera works and also learning to trust the technology. I remember doing crazy things like backing ISO 100 slide film out of my only camera to put ISO 400 B/W in for the football game after school. You had to be able to do this without a dark room, while riding on the team bus. Oh yeah and not expose a single frame of the slide film because it had shots on it already. Then write the number of shots exposed on the can so you would not forget when you reloaded it....hahaha... I digress.

Lee, once you are sure that the 3200 is no longer meeting your needs, I would suggest that you rent a D610 and try it out. You may find that it is too complicated, doesn't meet certain specific photographic needs, or just doesn't "feel right" in your hands. You may find that a D7200 better meets your needs (it will work with ALL Nikkor AF lenses since it has an internal focus motor!). In any case, try it before you buy it! Cheers - JRH

I want one!
By the way, I started digital photography on a D5000 with 18-55mm kit zoom & 55-200mm kit zoom (training wheels). I still have all thee, but currently my two active cameras are a D5200 (24 Mp) and a D90 (12 Mp). ALL of my other glass is FX. If & when I upgrade, it will be a new body only.

You might try renting a D610 and a lens you think you might want for a week, a small investment compared to the purchase. Some outfits like Lensrentals.com sell their equipment and will credit the rental to the purchase price if you like it. Win-win if it works out. Just a thought.

I'm just getting back into the photography game (Check out my Introduction). 3 months I purchased the Nikon D3200 kit. Camera body w/ bat and charger as well as 18-55 and 55-200. I have found this a nice start but I think I want a D610. Can anybody tell me what to look for in so far as picture quality goes between the two cams? Also, I'm selling the two kit lenses because I now use the Tameron 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 and the Tameron 75-300mm. But I think they both are DX. Will they be a big impact on the full frame D610? Or should I just purchase all new FX lenses?

I started with a 5100 and now own a D600. I did not get rid of my 5100 and as stated above, keep it as a second body. I invested in the holy trilogy of lenses but highly recommend at least the 24-70 as a lens to use 90% of the time. Good luck as you return to the life of photography.

The 24-70mm f/2.8 makes sense, if you do a lot of studio work. If it is used as more of a walk around lens outside, a 24-120mm f/4 might be a better choice.

Oh yes I do understand. It's your gear that got better because they were loved by the owner and not accusing them for when they missed the shot. You know if you dislike someone that person isn't going to work for you and the same for gear. They have the feeling too.
