When I was in high school in the late 50's, they actually taught us logic as a subject. We also learned civics, government and ballroom dancing. I don't know what they are teaching these days, but I don't think logic has been part of the curriculum for the last half century or so.

I think logic and common sense are not specifically taught, but gained from life experiences. When you were a kid, you were outside, experiencing all sorts of stuff, taking lots of chances, learning what to do and not to do.
Today, kids are in the house, playing Nintendo, Xbox, looking at porn on the internet, sitting around getting fat and dumb. What few activities they get into are super supervised by adults, by the government and so on. The result is, well, it's what you see today, no common sense, everyone clamoring for more and more laws to protect everyone from themselves.
Like all things that people can misuse and get away with it-they will. Yesterday while riding my horse in a local Wildlife Refuge, there were 2 young adult males flying drones near a site where Golden eagles have been seen trying to re-establish territory. Despite seeing us on our horses below them, they continued and these things were not quiet but very annoying. I am NOT a fan of these things- I have already seen too much misuse and only see it getting worse. In the case of the fire, they should not be in an emergency scene area, copters or not. If they malfunction of have operator error, then who gets hurt below?

We obviously need more federal rules and regulations. The government already tells us the types of light bulbs we can use, the size of the tank on our toilets, what days of the week we can water our lawns, how to wear a helmet when on a motorcycle, they teach middle-school children how to put a condom on a banana, where we can place a child in our car when driving to the store, what school your child has to attend, yep, you're right, we need more asinine laws. Please name one area of our lives that the government doesn't strive to control.

^^^You DO realize that rules, regulations, and laws are there for a reason right? Usually because some idiot caused harm to another or their property.
Some jerk brings down a chopper with a drone or someones house burns down because the tankers couldn't fly and then WE are ALL paying for an asinine LACK of laws.

California is grinding out restrictive legislation to put legal bite on drone operators.
Like cannot be flown over private property.
Elevation limits, no lower than 350 feet. (You are going to need a tall ladder to launch your drone, Jones)
Ad Nausium. More laws that won't get enforced...

I'd be interested to know how they define a "drone". Such a law could badly interfere with model aircraft of all sorts, even the ones that have flown legally and safely for ages.

Well now you are asking for intelligence from legislators.
That ain't gonna happen....
One thing is for sure, it ain't gonna be pretty. :hunf:
I believe that drones are thought to be a weapon for terrorists and many people are frightened by them.
It's a common reaction, and people will tell you that they would shoot down a drone if given the opportunity. Even when people are not thinking about the drone shooting or bombing the neighborhood, they will assume that the drone will take their picture, record their voice or otherwise spy on them.
You would not hear such an extreme position if you were talking about an RC Airplane or RC Car.
careful. They come for you long lens next. Maybe regulate remote shutter releases too.
