Have you tried the Yellow Pages under metal suppliers?

And sometimes scrap yards will sell you odds and ends for the weight alone.

My problem is I like thicker stock, and Lowe's or Home Depot just don't believe anything thicker than 1/8" exists. :hunf:

I tried both, and 1/16" was the thickest, and it wasn't 4 x 4, either.

Maybe you could mount 2 -2in. pieces together ??

I thought of that, but both are structural pieces, and they hold revolving parts. Fortunately, the local surplus shop had some.

Grainger has this item but the smallest they sell is 1 ft. length.
HARD TO FIND? No WAY...you just need to know where to look and for only $8 for the section of Aluminum Sheet Stock, you can make both an unpollished 4" X 4" X 1/4" plate and the 4" X 8" X 1/4" plate out of one order costing $8 plus shipping.

Here's the link Jerry:

Yes, I know that sounds like a ridiculous title, but try to find 1/8" thick aluminum 4" X 4" or 4" X 8". Online got me nothing, so I'm trying a big surplus place in town tomorrow - or maybe later today. I found plans for a time lapse camera rotator, and I have everything (on order) but the top and bottom plates - the main body. Since drilling, tapping, and countersinking are involved, I can't substitute wood or plastic. I'm going to feel mighty foolish with $100 worth of parts and no way to mount them.

1/8" I spent over an hour looking online yesterday, and there was nothing available in terms of 1/8" and 12" x 12" or smaller - really!

Jerry, I work for an aluminum window manufacturer in Kansas. We use aluminum break metal in varying thicknesses on many of our jobs. Below is a link to our supplier. You might give them a try.

Of course you could try brass...a bit heavier but will give you a stronger tapped hole...

P&T Surplus right? They may not have anything in particular but they've probably got what you need - every time.
