I was offered the opportunity to set up an email account with Microsoft Outlook. I would enter all my current Time Warner, info and I could connect through Outlook, using my regular email address.

What, exactly, does that mean? Is there an advantage to using Outlook? How would it be different from my T-W connection?

Think of Outlook as a 'portal' for your email, as in you can have several email addresses linked together there.
- The 'benefits' would only be apparent if you used it and needed the extra features.

Do you like the way your email works now? If so, why migrate it? If not, then it's worth the effort to check it out.

Cheers! S-

I have three addresses that I use, so Outlook would make them all available in one spot, right? That sounds good.

Microsoft Outlook, like G-Mail and others allows you to connect to more than one e-mail service/address so you only have to open one site to see all your mail. If you only have one e-mail then you don't really need it.

I use "Office Outlook" (not the same as Outlook.com) since I currently have 5 active accounts with different people. I have had more in the past.

Thanks. I'll play around with it.

I love Outlook - I have several accounts, so each has its own folder. I can have sub-folders and create rules so that emails from specific sources or with specific keywords automatically get filed in a specific folder - so my folder labeled "PhotoBlog" gets all the new notices from UHH. With a quick look I can see how many new emails are there. You can also block certain senders. For the emails I get from politicians and political groups - those I don't want to see, I can block. Those that I may want to read I set a rule to go into my "Politics" folder and eventually get to them. I have a "Shopping" folder, a "Travel Info" folder, and a "Receipts" folder that I move any emailed receipts into.

It is much more useful than the free email servers.

This sounds like fun - something else for me to over-organize. :D

Outlook will also physically put the email on your PC's harddrive. This means that you will have access to it if not connected to the internet, like during a flight or power outage. You won't receive and sent items will stay in your outbox until reconnected.

I have multiple email accounts hosted at Yahoo and Gmail. This means that they are backed up on their servers. But I use Outlook to process my email 90% of the time. The other 10% is from one of my Android devices. I personally hate the Gmail interface.

The folder structure in Outlook is much more similar to Windows Explorer, too.

Most email programs can use more than one email address and all the emails would appear in one inbox.
I use MS Outlook as my address book with all my contacts, snail mail addresses, emails, and other info about each. I've been using it for several years. Integrates nicely with MS Word to create mailing lists and labels.
I don't use it as my email program.

I used Outlook for a time... it worked fine. It has lots of extra business features that I, an ordinary guy will never use.

Jerry,
I tried Outlook in WIN 10 and hated it. It's just not user friendly. I downloaded Windows Live Mail and it took me right back to the look and feel of the old e-mail programs. Outllook is now optimized for tablets and phones. Try Windows Live Mail - you'll immediately see and appreciate the difference.
Cheers - JRH

This is funny. I read a bit about Outlook and watched the video. Then I opened it (Outlook 2013) on my computer and found that the trial period had ended. I didn't know there was a trial period. I only got this because I was offered a chance to open an Outlook email account. Outlook 2010 is no longer available as a trial, and I would have to buy Outlook 2013 for $110.00. I'll still with Windows Live Mail.
