Fastening Battery Pack to a light stand

Just got a couple of Streaklight 360s to upgrade from speedlights. They come with a battery pack that, for now, is hanging down from the cord. I was thinking of using gaffers tape but I suspect there is a better way to adhere it to the stand so it's not just hanging there. Maybe some kinda Velcro? I dunno. Just thought I'd put it out there to get some suggestions.

Is there any kind of a post at the top of the light stand you could hang a tote bag on? Stick the battery in the bag.

If you got the Blast Power Pack it has a clip for hanging on a belt and the holes on the side for attaching a strap.

Yes, I put the strap on there but there's not really anything to hang it from the stand that's secure. They are very light weight. - 8' Cheetah stands.

Then why not just put the battery pack at the base and use the strap to hold it there? The stand has 3 legs doesn't it? Just strap the battery pack to the legs where they attach to the mast. The legs should keep you from tripping over the wire if you are klutzy like me.

Power cable isn't long enough to do that if I need to place the light over my head.

Why don't you post a pic of the situation so we can see what you're dealing with? ;-)

True gaffer tape does;t leave residue, but I wouldn't use duct tape. One thing I would do is to invest into sandbags and use them on light stands ALWAYS! Lights are expensive and even the best stands fall, get knocked into, etc. Also, if you're looking for light stands I would get the air-cushioned ones, or, use strips of gaffer tape at each section to prevent collapsing and breaking bulbs. There is my 2-cents. Good luck.

There is a clamp specifically designed just for that purpose sold separately...about $10 I think. Search B&H or Adorama. Also, you could use a short Velcro strap, loop it around the lightstand post above one of its clamps, and clip the battery pack to it. Even a zip-tie could be used similarly. My 2 cents

I use a clamp that attaches to the light stand; the battery clips onto the clamp. For these, a light weight clamp will work, such as

I have become very fond of "Think Tank Red Whips". http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/redwhips.aspx

I know you can get them from Amazon; however, they are cheaper at the thinkTANK site.

Hi oneillj,

You've got a couple of good suggestions. Here is another thought. Get a bundle of cable ties from Harbor Freight (http://www.harborfreight.com/household/cable-ties.html) or your local hardware store. The cost is a couple dollars and they are fairly easy to use. I always carry a small, side-cutting needle-nose-pliers-combination multi-tool in my camera bag(s). They are handy to remove cable ties, make repairs AND a bunch of other things that can happen in the field when you least expect them. Take care & ...

My wife sews all the time and she buys Velcro in strips for her hand bags. She made me strips to hold my light kit boxes together when in storage. Perhaps a strip of it would work for this purpose. That is, hanging it by the
screw mount on the stand. Just a thought.

What's wrong with the gaffers tape?
