New to this :) Hampton Roads Area
I'm just getting started with Digital Photography. I'd like to get into it to make money, but for now just want to learn anything/everything I can and enjoy it as a hobby. Any tips would be welcomed!

Welcome Ashley! Those are all great shots. Are you coming from film? It is a whole new world with digital. Lots of computer work to get to know. I am 3 years into digital. After 30 some years of film. But loving every minute of it. Looks like digital is a hard way to start a business tho. Lots of folks out there doing it. What type were you thinking of getting into?

Well my "good" camera is 35mm, and I've had a couple point and shoot didital camera's over the years but I haven't put the money up for a great digital one yet. I'm still doing some research and trying to figure out what camera will be the best for what I want to do. I want to get into portrait's: babies, families, weddings, etc. but I'm not sure what will be best for it. I'd like to stick with a Canon.

Most of the cameras on the market now have great quality. It is mostly the lenses that get you the good pictures. And Canon and Nikon both have good glass. The price of a good camera is what is going to hurt :-D And then the lenses. But now days The so called pros might show up to the wedding with 2 point and shoots. Seems to be a rat race out there right now.

Thanks for the advise :) hopefully I'll be buying myself a new camera in the next 2-4 weeks.

Welcome to the "HOG". Slow down on wanting to make money off a good hobby. I did that in mid 60's. I made some money as a side line job but soon became less enchanted with photography. After I quit trying to make money I returned to enjoy it as a hobby.
You may want to trip on over to Richmond Camera in Chesapeake and/or Norfolk to play with some cameras. Make sure they show you the Sony A77 and A65. Very fast cameras, lots of built in features (smile recognition, facial recognition, predictive focus, HDR, panorama and low level lighting (nine exposures combined). I live near the mountains but spend a lot of time in Tidewater. Best of luck to you and we hope you enjoy UHH.
Hello & Welcome. Prepare to learn and be amazed.
