I have never seen a Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine start a war but I know plenty who could end one if the politicians would keep out of it.

You got it my friend...but you left out something: "...no more stupid politician defending the interest of the big guys behind the government"....They are not stupid...they are much worst than that......

Amen.

SB,

Unfortunately it doesn't take a politician to make a war....just two or more groups of people. The politicians just make them bigger and stupider!

I would submit the inner city gangs are often "at war", the Hatfields and McCoys were at war, etc. Since humans are predators, violence/war/etc pretty much comes with the science.

Definition of war:"a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state."

Thanks, Jerry. Reminds me how much I dread the day when no member of the House or Senate knows first hand the consequences of war. A lot of lives were wasted in Viet Nam, just to take a hill and then give it back. We should never stop honoring these fine patriots. But, don't get me started on Westmoreland.

A sober reminder of the cost of war.
-------------------------------------------

The names are arranged in the order in which they were taken from us by date and within each date the names are alphabetized. It is hard to believe it is 40 years since the last fatality in 1975.

I remember driving to work every day in the early 80's and hearing a rap type record play on the radio - which I used to turn off.
One day I was not able to turn it off and so heard a record that left a mark on me that remains today. The record was 19 by Paul Hardcastle and referred to the average age of the soldiers sent to Vietnam. It mentioned the great numbers of veterans who were still living that war in their minds.

20 years later Paul Hardcastle made a follow up record from the first - sadly practically nothing had changed.

Today - 40 years on - politicians are still sending troops into battles of questionable value from which many emerge with permanent scars and no respect or help from those that sent them in the first place. Returning troops have even been booed by some people.

It is good to be reminded of the shocking waste of life and let us pray that one day the politicians will have more sense and see the troops as people - not disposable assetts.

Sad and painful to read, so many young lives lost, so many families blighted by loss and pain. Yet we forget and are doomed to repeat the horror of war for as long as there is no other solution. Maybe, from time to time, there is no other solution.

Unfortunately, their stupidity has nothing to do with it. It's more like arrogance, hubris, "toughness," and the chance to make millions. It's bad enough that they send our people to fight and die, but ignoring the problems of returning vets and voting down benefits just adds insult to injury. "Can't afford benefits" is no excuse when they thought we could afford the war.

"Solution" is the key word. Since WWII, have our wars solved any problem?
