I've recently acquired a new Sony A7mII and am dazzled by the images it can produce, especially in low light. I never thought I'd say this, but I am starting to consider getting rid of all my Nikon hardware, but I got Nikon down pat! That brings me to my real question...does anyone know of some good literature for the new A7mII? I've found stuff online but I'd like to have a book that is comparable to the Nikon books I've found.
Thanks a bunch in advance!

I have the Sony A7S, A7R, A7 II and A7R II. The A7 II is, indeed, a very nice mirrorless camera.

I wouldn't get rid of your Nikon lenses just yet. There are adapters for Nikon lenses -> Sony E-mount; none that are automatic that I know of (yet, but in the works) BUT Nikon glass is good stuff, and Focus Peaking and Focus Magnification sure helps with manual focusing!

As for adapters and autofocus, the only A7 with reasonably fast autofocus with 3rd party lenses is the A7R II. Adapted autofocus on the A7S, A7R and A7 II is deathly slow; manual focusing is normally faster.

Have fun with the A7 II!!

I hope Sony does a firmware upgrade soon so I can turn off the proximity sensor that turns off the LCD when I want to use a Hoodman Loupe to review my image in the bright sun.

Why not simply preview with the viewfinder? Shoot and preview using the viewfinder is quick and easy...

Got to give it to Sony. They really scored with this one.

This Sony is so tempting. If only they had a decent selection of long lenses and flashes.

Hope Nikon does something similar while I'm still able to hold a camera.

joe, you can use your existing long lenses with adapters. That was the plan from the beginning with the A7 family.

Think of it as an addition to your bag rather than a replacement.

I have the A7 II and the Nikon D610. Other than the obvious ergonomic differences I consider them to be on the same level.

I have an investment in Nikon lenses that I will not dump for the sake of switching to the Sony and I also have Leica and Zeiss manual focus lenses that I would not give up to use the Nikon exclusively. Once I can afford a decent Sony/Zeiss autofocus prime lens I may consider attaching it permanently to the A7 II.

I am happy to keep both systems and use them for different purposes.

Griff --- I love the idea of "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly." It is an outstanding principle of life that I fully believe in.

Cholly --- I always read your posts with great interest, because they DO give me meaningful and pertinent information about these great cameras. If you would JUST simply DO what Mark says though... Show us VISUALLY what you like about these cameras. We operate logically and visually and it can't be hard for you to do.

Everyone else --- sorry for mucking about in a thread that should be about the Sony A7 MII. Keeping ON TOPIC is something to strive for.

Piet, mark has issues. SERIOUSLY. I have NO intention of engaging in his contest or for that matter, participating in his game.

Nor will I deliberately lie in an attempt to assail or assassinate his character. He obviously has an emotional problem as witnessed by the two unprovoked, rude, and generally juvenile attacks on two different posters in this thread.

No one has anything to prove on this bulletin board, nor is anyone compelled to read or respond to any post. While some people choose to post photographs, others don't. All that means is some people do, while others do not. Nothing more. So no, I won't be posting any pictures here or anywhere else. I apologize if that doesn't help, but there are plenty of photographs out there that can demonstrate what this camera is capable of in the right hands.

Those adapters don't always work and don't work on larger primes. So stop spreading garbage . From slow to auto focus to no focus at all they don't all work (i.e., Tony Northrup). You don't have every lens made in the last 50 years do you? Cite some one who has every lenses and tested them all or just shut up. Where do you come up with stuff? Don't you even verify before you toss it up?

And if you put on BIG the adapter, you lost the the few ounces of any weight savings from the mirrorless and some of these adapter are at $400. You don't mention that? I doubt you even have the A7R II. I have yet to see any images from you from any camera. Why are you here???

For anyone who may be interested here is a pic. (no, not an 'Image')demonstrating the 'limited and unbalanced' range of lenses available to mirrorless cameras. . .
It is a Zeiss 250mm F4 Olympic Sonnar [Contarex mount] attached, via an adapter, to a Sony Nex 7.

Any reason the tripod mount is SO far forward? It is a rather interesting looking lens...

Bwana.
Yes it is.
Most of the weight is at the front. Focusing isn't impeded and a clutch allows the camera body to be rotated through 360 degrees.
Focusing is very fast via the large knob.

And wouldn't it be great if the Nikon camera took all of the current Nikon lenses.

That looks fun, if you never need to move WITH your camera.

It really depends on HOW one uses a camera - as to the practicality of this entire concept of "tiny bodies with adapters - so use can use HUGE lenses".
Not something I would want to do if traveling, street photo work, weddings, family events, concerts or...?
Where would it be practical?
Anywhere that you could hire "mules" to help you carry gear to - set it up and STAY there - hoping you can get "THE" shot.

Yes - for some that makes sense. And - I am a bit envious...wish I could do that.

Yes, I think Arnold Swarzenegger could be a great photographer; anyone who can hand hold a mini-gun would find this lens a doddle!

I don't know what it is but I have loved these Sony's since I got the NEX-5 for a trip to London a few years ago. I still love my NEX-7. I have the a7s and work with video a lot and it is simply a joy to work with. It matches up with Sony's big camcorders like the FS700 etc. Just got the RX100 IV to see test how it goes with the extreme slow motion, 4k and stills. The overheating is somewhat of an issue is hot places and used for long takes. But it appears to be so good I wan't to use this pocket camera all the time. I will wait on the A7 MII the reviews seem great. Wan't to see where Sony goes with this line. By the way the 12 mpxl a7s takes great stills. Paired with the Sony Zeiss 55mm it is awesome.

^^^Most people who buy Sony gear feel the same way.

I was a Minolta man until Sony bought them out. My initial fears about innovation and quality were smashed immediately and I've been happy with my Sony gear ever since.

As more people try the A7 series of cameras their popularity will increase.
