Cannot access the UHH website

For the last few days I have not been able to access the UHH website using my PC desktop or my laptop. After receiving the daily email, I am able to open the mail itself but when I click on the blue link it gives me warning saying tha due to restrictions on the computer the site cannot be accessed; however, I am able to access other links.

I have the same problem with the laptop, but my iPad2 works fine, which is what I am using to write this post. Any help will be appreciated before I ask the Geek Squad for assistance.

Julian,

Check you anti-virus/firewall settings, any ad blocking ad-ons in your we browser, and that you have your e-mail application set to open hyperlinks in your default web browser. Check for Content Adviser in your Windows operating system. Parental controls can ruin a good surfing day.

I agree with Michael's suggestion. I've noticed the site is blocked by the wifi in the United Clubs at the airport with a similar message. Maybe a common list is suspect addresses is shared with your product.

There are details missing in this case to just answer straight out.
the message you get is very similar to Group Policy restrictions or IE security.

The weird part is that this happened to both laptop and workstation, but not on ipad? that's odd. And other links work fine? Are all devices using same router and internet line ?

My first thought is that you may have blocked UHH address somehow. If you are using IE try resetting it. I just cant figure out how could this affect two computers unless you are using a domain structure or something to provide same settings on both PC's. And that's why it makes me think this is not just a setting on and off on one computer.

Like Armadillo mentioned, check also you Firewall and add-on. Try disabling them and test.

You can also check if your computers are able to resolve the IP-address? Start - CMD - and type : ping www.uglyhedgehog.com and see if you get a reply. If you do not get any reply's that may indicate a DNS problem or firewall blocking UHH addresses.

Little hard to say what the problem is as this kind of messages often appears due to restriction set to computers either through group policies or other tweaking program. I am not thinking virus, cause you mentioned other links works ok. Otherwise it could indicate that.

I have been having increasing problems with the site and keeping it running.

It has always been the slowest site that I frequent, due to waiting for the 2 or 3 d banners to load before the site is usable.

Over the last two weeks, it more and more does not respond, just freezes. I get a bar saying UHH not responding, with two buttons to click, "restore website" or "cancel." Sometimes the restore choice works, less and less often lately.

The last few days, the sites page frequently freezes, won't even respond to X ing the page to close it. I can then open a new page for UHH, which works fine for a while.

Have no problems at all with other sites.

Do you use Verizon FIOS service as your internet provider?

If that's the case, then you might want to contact their support about it.

One user has reported that she was able to get this fixed
by contacting Verizon technical support.

She says they asked her to run some diagnostics commands
on her computer to determine where on the path
from her to our forum's server the problem occurs, and then
they fixed it for her within 10 minutes.

Thank you for the info. I contacted Verizon about the problem; they proceeded to run a tracer after taking over my computer remotely. Obviously there was a 'time out' indication when trying to reach the UHH site; however, the diagnostics came up with so many codes and numbers that the technician decided to consult with other members of the team before giving me the answer. They will call me back within 48 hours. Still, I am using my iPad to follow up this post. Thanks again.

I thought that in US, the land of the free, the internet access is as in Norway, fast ,stable and very rarely the ISP is the cause of connectivity. In most cases problem on clients.
If this was my case i would :
- if ipad and PC using same internet connection i would compare TCP/IP configuration
- I would check with different DNS servers (google for instance 8.8.8.8)
- tracing (like the tech guy did) can be misleading as some routers do not reply back.
- For testing if your line is the reason, i would use my Smartphone to make a hotspot and connect to it from my computers and see if i can access UHH site.

This case sounds to as a network troubleshooting.

In Norway , we have very rarely cases where the ISP is the reason for problems like this, and most cases this is isolated to the customers infrastructure.

After contacting Verizon with my problem they proceeded to run a tracer. It took 24 hours for them to come back with an answer but the problem has been fixed. Thank you again for your suggestion.
