I may have been mis-interpreted. My concern is for the requirement that the submission must have been shot in a specified six-day window. I have no problems with the selection of topics.

This is UHH. I'd have to look it up to see, but by reading most threads it would appear to be a rule that someone must twist and misinterpret each one somewhere along the way.

Late summer ennui...or the requirement that the shots be taken in a narrow window during the actual contest?

If the latter, I suspect Admin has lost sight of their audience.

What about just adding a contest with the old guidelines?

To me, the problem with the "shot during this period" requirement is that lots of good UHH photographers/PPers don't live in a situation that syncs well with the topic of the week. The general audience misses out on some nice work.

If Admin accepts that as a tradeoff for encouraging people to shoot on this somewhat randomly-picked topic in this narrow time period, I predict a lot of UHHers will stop looking at the contests. The voting numbers should be an (imperfect) indicator.

I like the new format. It forces me to get the camera out of the closet and think creatively.

The last few contests are listed below.

I don't see any subject matter there that could not be done anywhere with a little imagination.

I haven't had a photo I thought was good enough to enter every week; but that won't keep me from shooting.

I always look at the contest photos but I don't always vote.

The request to shoot your entry during a specific time has been there since the beginning. I don't understand why ya'll have such an issue with this.

This is most certainly one thing you can change by running your own contest.....and give us a monetary prize while you're at it because I am unhappy that all I get if I win are kudos.

Jeez, if you don't like the contest, go play with your camera and have fun!!!!!!!

Does this mean winner takes all the cameras?

Are you willing to administrate a separate challenge? (it isn't a contest). I'm guessing it would take no time at all to figure out that no matter what rules you implement, you can't please everyone. About every 2 weeks or so, someone starts a thread here wanting to change the challenges.

THAT would certainly cut down the number of entries....

....or act in the totally opposite way and bring in too many to shake a big stick at. Six of one / half a dozen of the other.

I can't imagine someone who hasn't got the time to take a photograph would have the time to admin a contest either.

The challenge is to use your brain to come up with something that meets the theme of the challenge, if someone is lacking the imagination and creativity to do so, well its pretty pointless to enter.

usain bolt doesn't turn up at an athletics event and say just give me the gold i'm faster than all these other guys, he still has to run. He doesn't get to bask in past glories.

If someone want's to start the i got lucky on a few occasions photography contest and seek adulation then they can start their own competition.

The challenge is just that, a challenge, a purpose, or motivation to get of the sofa and go out and make some new photo's!

If it has a purpose it's to help develop individuals as photographers and good on steve to take the time to organise and administrate it.

The contest is what he wants it to be. Votes were taken more than once and were for no forced constraints on time.

The purpose is to force people to get out and take pictures, not to show everyone your best picture ever taken of a particular subject. Naturally, this cuts down on participation, and picture quality, but it accomplishes a goal, not mine or yours, but many people, not everyone, like it this way.

I personally like the fact he finally stood up and did what he wanted, instead of meekly insinuating pictures "should" be current.

This way, at least new pictures are not competing against the best picture ever taken of a subject. Not my cup of tea, but why on earth does his contest have to be my cup of tea, it's his and it's awesome he takes the time to manage it for those that like it his way.
