You just never know what kind of animals you'll run into out there - both two and four legged.
Hope your finger never becomes confused about which it is operating...

You might want to consider getting a holster for your .380. Otherwise, someone might mistake you for an action movie star.

I do have a holster. It's an IWB that fits inside the belt.

gym, if I go into the wilderness it will be with a bodyguard carrying the SandW or Browning in his case. Or it will be with a guide so he better be prepared cause this ole girl cant out run a toddler after tearing 2 ligaments in my knee.

I have a Black Rapid Sport strap. It goes over one shoulder. Check their web site as they have other models too.

OK, when you go off rambling like I've done in St. Augustine today, lots of walking, how do you carry your gear? What do you carry, lens, tripod, flash? Have been times I would have liked my off camera flash. Do you have the 'photographers vest'? I have a backpack camera bag but think things could be simplified. Suggestions???? :?
If I am walking or moving around alot, I take the camera, my 18-200mm zoom (so versatile!) and my 430EXII flash. If I have a vehicle nearby, I will toss a tripod in it, but if walking, I probably won't carry it around. I don't carry a variety of lenses as my 18-200 will cover most situations.
I have a Lowpro sling 200aw, I carry my camera and three lenses. Also a remote control unit, extra card, and lens cleaners. If I'm in the wheel chair (electric) strap a tripod on, or use a monopod as a walking stick if walking.
I like the Title of this Thread "when you are packing"
When I'm packing I take a Glock .40 cal or a S&W .38 spl. LOL

Good point! My wife has one and has used nothing else since she got it at photokina 2010. It's a ladies' model with a slight curve for a more comfortable fit.

I have a LOWPRO large camera case on wheels, but have a photographers vest that I now use for the walk around things, for extra lenses, batteries, etc, LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I got it from B&H. I think it is easier and simpler than carrying everything, and as for the tripod, well, sometimes it acts as a walking stick , LOL...Can't tell you how much I do like the photographers vest....lots of pockets of various sizes. (Actually have a back pack too, and a smaller case.)

It varies. Sometimes I take a backpack, sometimes fit everything into a vest, and sometimes am able to fit everything into a pocket. It all depends on what I expect to be shooting and what lenses I anticipate needing. Last week I took a short hike with some family into unknown woods to shoot some wild lady's slippers that were in bloom. I only took one camera back, one 105mm lens, lens cloth and extra battery and card, camera hanging off shoulder. For around a town, where I would anticipate wanting the camera quickly for shots, I would probably do something similiar. I'm still trying to find/make a system of carrying the camera (lens attached) in such a way as to leave my hands free, but camera at ready.

I have a rapid strap (blackrapid) that I use for my IR camera. That way I have one slung over my neck/shoulder and the other camera in hand or on tripod.
I'm def. gonna have to do some shopping!! Thanks everybody for your input. !!!! DG
I used a strap from MAGELLAN, with wire cable imbedded (tough to cut and run) hanging on my left shoulder. Both hooks thru attach loop on left of body of Pentax K10D w/ 18-250 lens. Lens was locked at rest, and could pull up assembly by raising with hand on lens, grab in right hand, turn on switch, flick lens unlock button aim and fire. Had spare "hot" battery on holder Velcroed around strap w/ spare 8gig sd card. I think the strap (1 1/2"-2" ?) was approx. $18-25, in 2009. Did San Fran, Wine country, Yosemite, then later that Summer in Boston and coast of Maine in Portland area. Comfortable , handy, swift, and in chilly area covered under light jacket for conceal ability.

I stumbled upon a binocular harness from Brunton that is working out nicely for me.
http://www.mybinocularharness.com/I have the classic design. The straps are elastic, attachment is to both sides of the camera at the strap point, and the attachment has quick connects, pretty stiff ones, so it's easy to detach the camera from the harness.
