My Work Is Done

We heat with wood & our winters are sometimes seven months long, so ... during the summer I have to supply our wood. We had seven kids who all used to help me, but ... they're all gone now. Since I retired, this is the only job I absolutely HAVE to do (other than take pictures).

I finally got our tractor running right to do some logging. Most if not all of these were taken with my phone while I was working. Nice to be done & let the drying begin. Started with eight full cords left over from last winter, have 21 now.

Good, hard work. Congrats on your apparent success. I've done it for a fireplace, and it's not exactly fun.

You can send some my way. I don't heat with wood but I love my fireplace. Have a fire every night that I can in the winter.

I like your pictures and your logging buddy. I grew up on Case tractors. The first one I drove was a 1936 CC Case. We now have a dozen or two ranging from a 1930 Model L to Case IH Magnums.

I always liked the Case o Matics. We have an 830 Case o Matic Diesel.

Enjoy your winter cozy and warm.

WHAT kind of a Castle do you have that can eat 21 cord in a winter??

And has all of that been split ?? Or does it get split as needed ?

Well, the house IS kind of big, as I said, we had seven children. Our furnace is hot-water baseboard, heated by either fuel oil or wood. Since fuel oil is rather expensive, we usually heat with wood. We have eight acres of woods & its a renewable resource. It just takes a bit of gas, oil, and a new chain saw every couple of years.

Oh yeah, and a bit of labor. And, yes, all that wood is split. Stuff on the left is softwood for Oct. - Dec. ~ on the right is hard maple for Jan. -Apr. We usually burn 12-15 full cords, but I like to be prepared.
