This morning, I spent an hour or so at the just opened, Los Angeles County Natural History Museum Butterfly Pavilion. Still a bit stark (new plants still growing), but quite photographer-friendly.
I have posted two macros, and several close-up support photos.
Anise Swallowtail (Papilio zelicaon), 1:1 magnification (life-size).

Even if they allowed tripods, I would still hand-hold, so I could maneuver camera to best capture image. Butterflies rarely pose for more than a few seconds.

This is my first visit of the season (the Butterfly Pavilion opened this last weekend -
http://www.nhm.org/site/explore-exhibits/special-exhibits/butterfly-pavilion ). I will visit several more times throughout the summer. In the Fall, the venue becomes "
The Spider Pavilion".
Beautiful shots, ther's a butterfly centre in Lancaster(uk),I will be paying a visit ther in the near future.
