When using LiveView on my D7100, I see a relatively small rectangle up against the left edge of the LCD, just below the mid-line of the screen. Sometimes is has a red border, sometimes green. I can't move it to another place on the screen using the control dial. It appears regardless of which AF mode I use. It doesn't appear when I use the viewfinder.
I've been through a couple of different references but can't find the cause. Any thoughts from the collective wisdom of the Hogs is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I'm not sure. I think I remember I had the same problem on my D810. It may have been that the camera was not in focus. If you can't move it is the the lock switch on? It may have been that the battery was low.
I don't have it o my D7100 but settings may be differ.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'it'.
I have a D7000. It has a lock switch. I'm sure the D7100 also has one.
It should be a lever on the back of the camera that has an 'L' position.

Read the original post, "it' was a rectangle in live view. Don't know where the question on the lock switch came from, do you?
I knew I could count on the Hogs. Once I flipped the LOCK switch, I worked backwards and figured out the issue. That box shows the AF area--normal, wide, face or subject tracking. You change it by depressing the focus mode selector button on the front of the camera and rotating the sub-command dial until you see the choice you want in the top of the Live View window. All worked out now.
Thanks to all.

It's simply your focus point. Green, in focus. Red, out of focus.
