I would like some help in choosing a new superzoom camera. We are planning a Mediteranian Cruise for late summer in 2016. I like the idea of bring one smaller versatile camera on this trip. I currently own a Sony DX 100 iii, a Canon T3i and a Nikon Coolpix P500. I really like the Sony DX 100 for smaller areas and low light situations. I have a Tamron 18-270 lens for the T3i but that is bigger and heavier than I would like to lug around. I was thinking to replace the Nikon P500 with newer technology (since I shoot a lot on auto). I was looking at either the Canon Sx50 or the newer SX60. It seems that some like the older SX 50 over the newer SX 60. I would also consider other options. Please offer any options or advice. Thank You all in advance.
Got a Canon SX-50 from Canon direct as a refurb for $179.99. Keep an eye on their site for these deals which come and go. No second thoughts at that price. It's a backup to my D7200 and good for it's extra reach. Good luck.
Thanks Mr PC, that's kinda what I was thinking.
Those 50X or 60X cameras are more zoom that any one lens could give you in a more expensive DSLR.
I saw another 50X from SONY at the mall the other day. Anyone have an opinion on the SONY?
Thank you everyone, I just ordered the Referb SX50 for $169.
The Canon SX50/60 would be a good choice, I have an Olympus SP UZ 820 which has X40 zoom and find that it is difficult to focus on the subject at maximum zoom although I am OK upto X30 and I can hand hold the camera.
I have done several Mediterranean cruises and usually take a mini tripod but I rarely us it as the ship is always moving. I find the best method when on long zoom is to brace the camera against a light pole etc. It can be quite hard to find a flat surface to put a camera on (except the deck), the deck rail is to risky as they are curved, I tried a Gorillapod but the legs won't grip the rail securely so I use the pole method.
If you need any advice about Mediterranean ports of call let me know.
Have a good cruise
I'm very pleased with my SX 60 which I bought for my trip to Thailand. Even though I took my DSLR, I used the SX 60 for most day trips instead of lugging the heavy gear.

The new Sony 90 has a Zeiss lens that goes to 750mm and fits in your pocket. The 400 goes to 1200 MM. How long of a lens can you hand hold????
I bought a Panasonic Lumix 60X on Amazon last year. It was $210. refurbished! Takes great pictures of the moon, which is what I wanted to do w/o having to spend $1500. on a longer lens for me Nikon!
I know this is late and I know there have been mixed reviews on the Nikon P900.
I have mine and would not trade it. It is in a word, fantastic. It goes with me when I have my D800 and it fills in when I need a shot I would miss while changing lenses or doing more set up on the D800.
We have been at the beach, in the mountains and this week in Savannah. Lots of great shots.
Good shooting with your choice!

other than lag time, i'm happy with both the hx100v 30x and the hx300 50x. the hx400v should be fine but at a higher cost.
