Hi I'm looking for some advice on the not too expensive and fairly easy to use software for photo touch-ups for some wedding pics I recently took. Thanks

Of course your saying "not too expensive" is a relative term in this software field. But, I would say anything under a hundred bucks is not too expensive. You could have is real cheap and go with the freebies like Google's Picasa. Then again, you can get Photoshop Elements 10 for $90 @ Amazon.com. Then when you want to do a little more, you'll already have a great program ready to go. There are a lot of tutorials all over the net. It sounds like you want something for basic photo editing.

Hopefully this will give you some food for thought.

Thank you! I am downloading Picasa at this moment, that will get me started then maybe I will purchase Photo Elements, $90 is not bad. Appreciate the quick response this was my first time using the forum. Thanks again

I see you have downloaded Picasa...that may do what you want. You can also get Paint.net program (free), which will allow layers, at http://www.getpaint.net/

While you're trying free down loads out I would recommend Gimp. I've used Picasa and Gimp and I prefer Gimp. It is a little more like Photo Shop Elements than Picasa. Didn't say it was like PSE. Just a little closer. It has a good color curves adj. for freebe.

Did you read what that guy said on the site about Picasa. I am laughing because I did an engagement for a Special Olympics group and the father "self appointed photo expert' said he used Picasa exclusively. I told him I used PS. He said Picasa was just as good for what he needed, and then went on to critque my shots of his sons party. Indeed.

I agree that Gimp or GimpShop http://www.gimpshop.com/download.shtml would be better, but the question was "easy way to do touch-ups". I wouldn't suggest that Gimp in any version is easy for someone new to photo editing, but if you are a self-learner and don't want to purchase PS; is a must-have...

Picasa is perhaps a good way to start, but imho, it is more valuable as a catalog program. Yes, it does have a few options for adjustment, but the controls are lacking.

Several others have recommend several other programs that are free, including Photoscape, which is far more advanced for editing than Picasa.

Bobbee, don't you love all the "self appointed experts" ?
I usually get one or two a year who feel they should be teaching the class :)

OMG, I am used to being in front of alot of people and controling them. SOrt of my job, but this guy was making me squirm. Yes, appointed expert, I like that, very appropriate. I just did a party this Friday, The wife was a trophy, high maint woman. Very pretty. Going through the images I was saying to myself, although I tought they were great, "she isn't going to like this!!". I gave her the disk, she loved them, in fact she contracted me to do the Chirstmas shoot of the family.

As Mary from another post will probably agree...."WE make ourselves sick with self-critism!!"

OMG! LOL! You just never know what you are going to get back. Congratulations on her liking your stuff and wanting you to do more.

I use ACD software -- bought my first program for $75 and have been pretty satisfied with it. I have noticed however, that no one on this forum mentions using this software. Just wondering what ya'll thought of ACD?

I would start by downloading the Gimp and trying that. It's free. See what it'll do and then if you feel like you need more functionality (or a quicker learning curve) then look to spend on a product.

Also, with Gimp you can download a 198 page user's manual. Just google it. It's not hard to find.
