I just purchased Affinity Photo and downloaded it to my iMac. I'll upload some photos to it later today and see how it goes.

I am anxiously awaiting your take on this. It looks good !!!! PHOTOS now , I am having trouble with organizing. I would like birds in flight--birds-family--sports in separated segments but it always arranges according to date taken.

Affinity Photo is not an organizer like lightroom, as you have a mac you might try darktable. I think that has similar organization abilities.

Affinity Photo is quite nice, but it's more of an alternative to photoshop. It can use many of the same plugins.

You can also use affinity photo as an external editor to lightroom.

I'll let you know Denny.
I am/was an Aperture user and I don't like the way Photos organizes either.

blackest, Mac, denwin580:

I have PS and used it for some years. Affinity caught my eye and so I bought it with the 20% discount (I believe). I have used other Serif programs, back in the past, and found them fairly easy and fun to use, so I thought I'd see what Affinity was like.

I do prefer PS CC over Affinity, but Affinity does make things easier than PS for editing. I am not fully used to this new program, but it certainly does have potential and seems to make PP'ing fairly easy in a more simpler fashion.

Perhaps, I have not yet gotten into the more editing complexities of the program, but Serif seems to have given it a lot of thought before making it available to the public . . . and for a really great price, especially for those Mac users who don't have a decent PP'ing program for images.

LR is definitely the program to have when you need an image editor and one that will catalog your images. I also use it for quick editing several photos which seems to be quite fast and useful. However, I can do the same thing with ACR (Adobe Camera Raw), but PS/ACR and LR all use the 'same' engine, so to speak, so there are a lot of similarities when PP'ing images.

Best Regards,
Tom

Mac,

I am interest, as I am sure many are, of your coming experiences with Affinity. I now use Aperture, but it appears I will have to move on. Looking for something that cost less that the $10 per month for Adobe.

Mac, I'll be interested in your experience. I currently use PS/Lightroom CC for most of my editing and file storage. Looking for something to handle files better.

You might all like to take a look at this link. Get some pressure off of Mac in the short term.

what I would like to see is if a program like Affinity took over the organizational structure of Aperture, then I'd be sold!
