I love this photo. What lens did you use to capture it? And what settings? I've been trying to get the stars and have had some trouble, but I keep practicing.

Yeah...I would like to know what type of lens you are using too. I have a new Nikon D3100 but my zoom (70-300) is manual focus and am having a hard time getting a good shot with a tripod. (Zoom w/ auto focus is on my Christmas wish list.) Dang! I got beter moon shots with my old Nikon P90. (Maybe it's just my eyes goin' bad.)

I'm using a Canon 400mm f5.6L with a 1.4 TC.. I don't have anything longer (except an old 450 FD S.C.C., but that's for film cameras)
You pretty much have to manually focus at night.. the auto-focus will go wonky.. :(
Yes, I found out the hard way when I was shooting the stars and, duh, wondered for a bit why I couldn't focus -- the lens was on automatic. As soon as I switched to manual focus, the images looked a bit better. However, I'm still trying to capture a great star photo. Someday...(I'd like to get a good moon shot too!) Thanks for your reply.
awesome picture. we had a full moon last night here as well, but it was extremely overcast.

Thank You,
Sometimes you can get some nice dreamy moon-shots when the clouds are passing by...
of course, solid overcast isn't much good...
