Where did you order yours from? The best price of a refurbished SX-50 I can find is from Canon at $386.00

They seem to change that price every week :) A few days ago it was $179, a few days before that, $386, a few weeks ago $179...and so on. Crazy!

Thanks. I believe Adorama can do better.

A good way to compare and check what to expect in a camera is to look at flickr.

For pictures taken with Nikon P900 you can look here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/2751059@N20/pool/page1

It seems to me that the SX50 has better IQ.

There are lots of places to do comparisons.

But not very sharp either. It is not your daughter's mistake. This is the usual IQ produced by this camera. Instead try the Nikon P 600 or P900. The P600 is cheaper of the two with a better reach than the Canon HX 50 and far better Image sharpness. I sold my Canon and bought the Nikon p600. Well worth it.

I ordered the P900 about six weeks ago. I have two other Nikons and the P900 will supplement them. As for shooting in RAW, I don't. Some people swear by it. I'm not one of them.

[quote=JPL]Do not rely too much on snapsort.com It is a crap website that is very misleading and bases their score mostly on how many people are showing interest in cameras by searching for them on the internet and the technical features or quality of the cameras have a very limited value in the score. This is by far the worst website to look for useful info about new cameras.

Too many errors on snapsort, there are more reliable sites out there:

Here's an article I saw on Yahoo re: the P900:

Yes, it does have a longer reach, but I've seen hand-held images on the SX50HS from Hoggers that had better IQ.

I'm also going for an SX50 refurb. I'd prefer to have a larger sensor, but that's a tradeoff for the longer zoom. It will do until Nikon makes a good mirrorless with an aps-c sensor. (Though I am looking at the 4/3 sensors)

I am looking for a backup camera; has anyone received/bought the Nikon P900 camera yet? I am considering placing my order for one but I am concerned about preliminary reports indicating that, regardless of the great P900's 83X zoom capabilities, the quality of images taking with the SX50 HS are far superior.

I gave my daughter the Canon this past week and I am impressed with some of the pictures she took in our backyard and at the beach. See below; not bad for a truly novice.
--------------------------------------------------------------

The Nikon beats the Canon SX 50 mostly on more and better features. Some say better feel of the camera in hand, and longer zoom range. But when both are judged for IQ at the same Zoom range as the Canon's SX 50's best Zoom range, the difference is minimal, if any, and not worth the extra cost of the Nikon....unless all the extra's are worth the extra money to you. The Canon is a much better value.

Your comments and feedback will be appreciated.
