You can save $600 by buying a new,mid 2014 release (not refurbished) 15" MBP from B & H Photo through tomorrow July 5th. Has retina display, 16 GB Memory, 512 GB hard drive, upgraded graphics card. Anyone have experience with this laptop ? Or know if Apple will be coming out w/a newer model with a faster chip in September or October? I hate to buy it if they will have a new model w/i 3 months. I do not own a laptop at this point. Thanks for any advice.

If you need it buy it now. You'll never crest the curve with electronics. Besides when the new model comes out it will cost a hell of a lot more than the one you mention.

I own that macbook pro, with the retina Screen, as well as the new iMac with the Retina Screen, and I can tell you this much, they are truly awesome computers...

The latest issue of Shutterbug (August 2015, p. 33) announces a new version of the Retina that has FORCE TOUCH trackpad and a TAPTIC ENGINE. The new model is 2.5 times faster than the old. Prices start at $1999. The short review makes it sound like a major upgrade for faster processing of photographs. This may explain the discount on the old model.

busmaster2, loneranger, ssymeono Thank you all for your helpful responses. Even Apple doesn't offer such as deep discount on a "refurbished" model of this laptop on their own website. When they upgraded the 15" MBP that ssymeono mentioned, the faster chip that's in the 13" MBP, wasn't available for the 15" so they did a work around of some sort to make it faster. Probably in the next iteration of the MBP, the chip will be available. The reviews say if you have a laptop that is acceptable to you then don't bother w/the upgrade b/c it's relatively minor. But if you have nothing, then take the plunge. It's just that it's a smoking deal from B & H. I wonder how long it will be for the new MBP w/the new chip to come out? Maybe it'll be ready for the college kids in September? I use LR CC for my PPing. I have a 24" iMac that is almost 5 years old w/a CD/DVD. I love it. It's like a Toyota....just goes and goes with no major problems. Thanks again. If you have any other comments, I'd love to read them.
