Can anyone give me any experience that you have had with this lens. I am looking at one and wondered how good it is and the possibilities for macro and portrait use. What would the value be in excellent condition?

This is one of the sharpest lens in its class, great as a "normal" lens on an FX camera or short telephoto on a DX. Personally, I think it's a bit short for macro, unless on a copystand or rail, and I don't like a razor sharp portrait lens. Your view may differ. You might check B&H, KEH or ebay for the going price.

Thanks, the asking price is $250 with front mounted Nikon dual flash. Which is about the going price for the lens, but no return. So trying to make a decision.. Using on crop sensor D7000.

I borrowed this lens from my friend for two weeks, it was more than a year ago. I can tell from my little experince with the lens - this is excellent lens, very sharp, old design, solid. I really liked it.

One of the first lens's I got for a D5100...simply fantastic lens...and very versatile in many ways. That price is a really good deal if its been taken care of.

The Nikon 105 2.8 Macro is way better..

The 60 is my favorite for in-flight shots like these.

I own this lens and use it to take photo's of stuff I put on E-bay. It is extremely sharp and have owned it for years, it was one of the first AF lenses I owned. Used to own the manual focus version of this lens for years. It is one of the few lenses that I would never consider selling. I suggest as always getting your used Nikon glass as close to Mint as you can. You will not be disappointed if you decide to buy one.

I respectively disagree with your statement. I own both lenses and both are equally sharp. Both have their place. Your response suggests that the 60 is not as good as the 105, which, by the way, is a suggestive response and not based on fact or tested data.

Great lens but I like my 105F2.8 VR a little bit better! The extra working distance is very useful.

I'm curious about the flash.
What model is it?

The 105 is better, but the 60 is a great lens. I've had the 60 for years. Hubby just got the 105. If you pick it up, you won't be disappointed. It is fast and very smooth in focusing.

"Way better" in what way? Definitely not in terms of optical or build quality. The primary advantage of the 105 is the greater working distance, which is significant in many instances, but certainly not all.
