Talk to Rick at Discount Camera Repair. Might be able to fix it cheaper than replacing it.
Hi. My name is Rick. Im the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. Ive been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.
I'd be more than happy to repair the lens for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If youre interested, please respond by private message or simply reply to this post.

I used my 55-300 about 90% of the time. I am now using a 18-200 Sigma that I picked up a while back. It would be taking a chance since I don't really know the guy. I'm trying to get him to a price that would make it worth the risk.
There is no price that would make it worth the risk. You are going on vacation and if the lens fails to perform, you have bupkis. JMHO.
It's not really a risk. All repairs are professionally done and thoroughly checked for good working order before the customer gets their equipment back.

KEH is a good source for a better lens at a lower price. You save money but don't lose a thing, except maybe the warranty.

Hi Rick, I was referring to the purchase he was mentioning wherein he was going to negotiate a better price to offset the risk. Not your repair work which I am sure is excellent. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding. Cheers,

I'd be a little shy on the Tamron. I own two Tamrons, a 18-270 and a 200-500. Absolutely no problems with the 200-500 but the 18-270 had to be sent back three times for problems and on the fourth I pushed for a replacement which they provided. Now the replacement is in for repairs. I feel like it is a design problem with that lens since all but one time it's been the same problem. Not just lens creep but lens drop. Friend has some Sigma products that he loves. If you can afford it I'd go brand name, even refurbished. Good luck.
Hi that is a different lens an there have not been any problems with this one.

Good to hear Jim. I'm just a little shy on any Tamron right now. I'm hoping that this is the last time I have to have one repaired for a while.
Look at the Tamron--16-300mm.
Your lens was the newer one 18-270 mine is 28-300 i believe much better.
Hi i also have the new tamaron 150-600 an got some excellent photos at full range hand held in a boat.

Tamron A185D AF 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 LD IF Macro........$155.00. Two available in Nikon mounts from and Authorized Tamron dealer.
Definitely NOT the quality of the Tamron VC, current model A010 lens.
Tamron has made 4 incarnations of this lens, first, the one I referenced above. Then:
#2 A061E AF 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 XR Di LD IF Macro
#3 A20 AF 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 XR Di VC
#4 A010 AF 28-300.. F3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD
If you don't specify which one you have, or want, no one will know.
