I am headed to Portland in August to shoot Mt. Hood, Oregon and Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Rainier in Washington. I found some great vantage points for Mt. Hood the last time I was there in April, but would like suggestions on the best vantage points for Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens. I would prefer to capture them looking across a lake if possible.
Thanks

Hoops, I've been up to St Helens a few times. I always go to the East side out of Cougar and do the Ape Canyon Trail(# 234).
There are great shots of the backside of Helens, Muddy Creek and the surrounding areas to the east. I like the Plains of Abraham.
The Ape trail is NOT an easy trail. I do it on a Mtn Bike and the way back is ALL down hill(well, some of it is).
I took this shot in August a few years ago from the top of the Ape Canyon at the start of the Plains of Abraham. Don't know which Mtn it is(maybe Adams). There probably has not been near as much water lately so probably not a great wildflower year. Good luck on your trip! ;-)
SS

PS, just know that the backside has no phone service of ANY type!

Thanks for the information on Mt. St. Helens. I have actually rented a helicopter for a hour at sunset to fly me over the entire mountain so I can capture some images that are unique and from a different perspective. Now, if I can just get the weather to cooperate on a specific day and time!! :)

Going in August I'd say the odds are in your favor. Generally dry that time of year here in the PNW.
