Picked up Nikon D5500 w/18-55mm lens. What an awesome little camera. Opinions on extra lenses? One for close up objects and one for wildlife zoom. Nikon website has a lot to choose from. Has anybody bought used from ebay?
EBAY can be a good source for used/older lenses. The 5500 has no internal focus motor, so AF-S lenses would be capable of AUTO FOCUS, AF-D lenses would meter, but would only focus manually.
The rule on EBAY, know what you are buying, do your research, read seller feedback info carefully, know what you are willing to pay, and do not get caught up in winning just to win.
I have bought several lenses on EBAY, all have worked out fine, except for one that had stuck aperture blades, but it was returned for a full refund with no hassles.
BUT stick to high feedback score sellers ;)
Edit:
Additional lenses: The 18-55 is a good walking around lens
The 55-300 Nikon is a pretty good telephoto for the money. It is reasonably sharp and will do well.
If you want close up - a 105 Macro is great, but expensive - myself I went with a 100mm f/2.8 Tokina Macro at considerably less money.
If you want longer than the 55-300, there are several choices in Tamron, Sigma or in Nikon.
I picked up a nice Sigma 170-500 zoom on EBAY not long ago.
For wide angle I went with a Tokina 11-16mm UWA, f/2.8
